VCI-300 Owners Happy with your Product?
I have had a VCI-300 for a bit now, I am quite happy apart from the low sound that comes from the unit compared to cd’s etc.
I don’t use the balanced out and am wondering if it makes any difference?

Balanced does not effect output volume. It does effect quality. Assists with taking out noise.
i found mine good fun but sold it last year as i prefer accurate looping on the fly so beatgrids n traktor pro were the way forward for me
Just got one a few days ago. Mapping it with Traktor and using it with an X1. I’m also a big fan of Itch. I really like the 300 and think its an awesome tool that can use to great applications. I’m diggin it big time.
A friend of mine has it and he loves it.
How much work is this?
Agreed 1 million!
Mapping, not so bad. Mapping LED’s is horrible. There’s a pretty decent mapping on this site and around the net from soulstec I think was the members name. It’s a pretty good mapping, that I’ve been adjusting more for my playing. Honestly you can playout with just the 300 but it’s hard to take advantage of all the effects because of the lack of knobs and buttons - and second controller and its awesome.
I don’t really use effects. ![]()
I might try to pick up a used one.
^
Thats what I did, got a sweet deal here on the forum. I really like Itch, but there’s also a ton of things Traktor does thats hard to leave behind, so I wanted something I can use with both. It’s working great. I have a few posts up about it. If you get one let me know - I should have the tsi done in a week or so. I think its an awesome piece of gear.
Watching the auction sites here. Might as well stop being such a vaj about the 7-bit faders and buck up. ![]()
I never did understand the HUGE hype around the VCI that’s brewing on these forums. Granted, I’ve never tried one and maybe they’re completely godsent tools, but I just don’t see what could be so special about it.
EDIT: I’m not trying to say “omfg it sux” or anything like that, I just don’t understand what merits the big hype. Me, I’ve got my eyes on a Xone 4D, as soon as I can afford it
THAT looks like an awesome piece of gear.
For the price, the VCI family is quite nice. I’d love an Xone 4D but it’s a bit too much for me.
I hear ya, I think alot has to do with price + portability + quality of product. For example since this thread is about the VCI-300. Take two decent CDJ’s (800’s) and a good mixer (xone 22). What that set up does is very similar two what I can do on a 300. Itch is a bundled software package its a very simple and user friendly package that all fits in my book bag, next to my macbook. Sound card is built in so I all in need is one usb cable. if you shop around used you can get this for 500.00. It’s not just the price, its that I can take this in a bookbag, and set up in a matter of seconds. From a house party to a pool party in a nice hotel. Now again this does not offer any flash or super effects but neither do two CDJ’s and a Mixer.
For me the hype is that I can take this anywhere with me and rock a set with a pretty small investment. What it is — is fun. The 4D is another class though, it really is.
Played with it a bit in the house today on m-audio monitors and I notice a bit of sound quality difference between Itch and Traktor. The audio outs in Traktor are a bit wierd when it reads the 300 sound card, so this could be it. They are not simple Left, Right, Front, Rear. They are Top Front Left, Top Front Center, Side Left, Front Right. Something along those lines. Need to mess with this to get it sound just right with Traktor. This could be the reason why some folks on the poll said it wasn’t loud enough. With Itch there was no issue. Either way, I’m enjoying getting to play either application on one piece of hardware.
Whats the response of the jogs like in Traktor compared to Itch?
WHY NOT??
You should give em a go mate…Tons of Funs!
The response in Itch is nearly perfect. It’s very precise and accurate. I would say the NS7 is better with the rotating platters, and the 300 is close second. With Traktor I’d say they response as good as the jogs on the 100. There is a tad, very slight, delay…and when you pull back the acceleration to get going is a tad slow. This is only in comparison to how it works in Itch. Honestly - they were very good with the 300. I think because they are larger platters and easier to control and grab than the ones on the 100, they are easier to use so the response time is not a huge factor. If you were going to do some heavy scratching I would much prefer Itch. For scrolling thru songs, doing small baby scratches it works just fine.
I would not consider the platters working in Traktor an issue for not getting the 300. This may have been a issue in the past, but they work well enough now not to worry about it unless you are looking for Itch like response.
How would you compare the audio (volume and quality) of:
Xone 42
Audio 8 DJ
VCI-300
NS7
I know you have tried all 4 and would be interested in your opinion.
Later, Phil.
P.S. my review of the DX is now on the main page ![]()
Phil,
Just saw it, gonna read it now. Sound quality coming from 2 M-Audio BX8A:
Xone 42 + Audio 8 + Traktor Pro + Timecode vinyl = AWESOME sound. I’ve said it here a bunch of times, the quality of the sound and the precise changes the EQ’s would make on the Xone are awesome. Best of the bunch by far.
NS7 - would come second. I think the balance outputs may make a difference. I honestly do not know what the specs are on each soundcard but the NS7 sounds great no issues there.
I’d say the VCI-100 + Audio 8 and the VCI-300+Itch are very comparable.
VCI-300 + Traktor does not sound as good as it does with Itch. I believe it has to do something with configuration.
After playing with these different set-ups the last few months, I think to get the most out of the VCI-100 + Audio 8 you need a line balance or DI box to get the best sound. I never got around to trying it, but could tell a difference with the Xone’s and NS7’s balanced outputs right away. I think thats probably why the DX also has great sound quality.
I will add that after the first week or so after getting the NS7 I was playing on it daily, I felt bad for the VCI-100+Audio 8. I hadn’t shown my trusty partner any love so I plugged in it, and immediately noticed the sound quality was not as good. It can’t be the Audio 8. I think it’s the outputs.
