glue tennis balls to the bottom like they used to do 4 TTs ;p
actually, a shim of some sort between the platter and base is not a bad idea. a small chunk of tennis ball would provide rubber to stick to the base, and felt which would allow the platter to slide but increase the tension.
HERE IS THE LINK FOR THE FREE FLOATS http://www.freefloat.net/content.php?section_id=1&subsection_id=1
The freefloat lookslike a nice idea.. however I find it’s size is too big for a VCI-100 (?)
I mean… comparing the size of a 1200 vs the VCI-100…
WOW, this jsut happened to me tonight! … the bass in the after hours club was so heavy that it actually cut out my traktor signal…then would cut back in… happened like 5-6 times…I was like “WTF is going on?!” i ended up folding my jacket and placing it under the vci, hoping that it’d absorb some of the vibrations, but it happened again.. so we turn down the bass… it was sorta a bummer but I am FOR SURE going to invest in getting some foam or on of those freefloat thingies.
These floaty things look interesting, i am not totally sure how well they would work with a VCI-100 but i know i would like to find out !
Again… it seems like a good idea, but comparing the size of a 1200mk2 vs a VCI-100 I guess the VCI will not fit in there… I have found a nice foam I can cut to the VCI’s size.. but I don’t know up to what extent it would really work.
If I go back to the Disco/Club and it happens again… I will be banned forever from there!! lol ![]()
I wouldn’t rule out the float so fast. Why not just get the pair (sell the extra one on here!)
and get a board of plywood cut to the right size to go over it and boom, $30 floating platform for the VCI. You could paint or wrap the board with black canvas from IKEA.
I am a little skeptical but like you i wouldnt rule it out so fast.
ok…here is a quick fix. All you need is a piece of foam the size of ur vci, it has be atleast 1/4" to 1/2" thick to stop the sucker from going ape sh!t. I have already tired this at several venue without a problem or just get a flight case for ur vci plus it make you look like a super star dj when u walk in and everyone wants to know whats ur secert weapon. When I dont carry the fligh case with my vci i put a sleeve on it and put in my laptop bag to travel light and I also tired to stick it under and works like a charm.
Those floats are amazing for techs. They even made it onto the front of one of my music textbooks.
Well.. The foam I found is about 1-1/2 thick. It is not the soft type.. but not the hard one either. It is the foam used to ship electronic equipment.
I will ask my friend if we can make a test well before the disco/club opens.
“Crossed fingers” - Will let you know.
I would strongly recommend for anyone who uses any type of external controllers to be on the safe side and configure the keys of your laptop keyboard to do most of the common things such as cue, play, pitchbend, pitch, bass kill, crossfader etc.
This way, if your equipment starts bugging, just switch it off and you can at least DJ some what properly.
You could also just leave some paper in your gig bag incase you ever need to use some folded up as breaks under your jog wheels - this will render your jogs useless but least you can still use the rest of buttons\faders on your controller.
If worst comes to worst i can get away without jogs, between cue jumps and beatjumps its possible to get anywhere needed in the track in pretty short time.
Would rubber help at all?
Inside the casing, under the job wheel? Thats where most of the vibration is, since there are 2 little stands the keep the jog wheel touching the bottom of the case.
Maybe rubber washers on the screws?
Give it a go, i think it might be a problem with the entire unit vibrating though. So i do not think it would stop the issue, but its definantly worth a shot as if it works it would be a pretty easy fix.
Also i wonder if you could just work out of a decently padded laptop bag ?
Im telling you guys from experience. I’ve been dj-ing every night since wed until today sunday (I need a break!). And usually play 3 times a week w/my vci and it has not triggered the pitch +/-
For the people that need a laptop sleeve for the vci to try out, go to Target I think they go for $15 USD, they even have in pink!
Ok Guys, i dont exactly understand what you mean by Foam Pad !
can you guys please demonstrate ?
thanks
look up your local sheet rubber house…its an industrial goods thing but they are everywhere. i used to work at one, it was called rubber and gasket of america. you can buy open and closed cell foam in any thickness at whatever size. they also have silicon and natural rubber although that may cause a heat issue.
just wait til there is enough bass to throw a needle off your record… way cool… haha
