I don’t have a suggestion, but I always thought it could be good to have a range of micro-PA systems. Like, basically, consumer sized versions of the PAs you get for performance. Lower powered, but with the same type of rack mount amplifiers, connectors, speaker designs. Maybe have them similar sized to studio monitors, with optional subs.
Had a pair of Altos that both died with the same issue within a couple of months of each other. They’d been stored indoors for a couple of years (at the DJWORX studio), used rarely. Took them out for two gigs and they died. Apparently a common fault with the built in amplifier.
The klipsch pro media 2.1 setup sounds good for $150…not particularly detailed but better than a lot of computer speakers. I think they make something similar without the sub.
Look into the Klipsch. If you have the space to put the sub under the table, you can tape the metal stands to the windowsill. They’re pretty light and sound about as good as anything for that price/size.
These are what I’m using now. They used to sound fine, but since trying them again they just sound terrible. Maybe I just need to do a little tweaking…
