im watching so that i can actually open my mouth to say if he is or isnt a bad dj.
im 6 minutes in, so far so good.
you must love beatmashes! 
Ever video I’ve seen of him he is ALWAY beatmashing.. multiple times within a few seconds.
not bad but I’m just not sure how someone sits through an hour of skrillex without offing themselves.
Honestly the sounds he is producing are just offensive to the ears after anymore than 1 or 2 songs. Alternating High and low pitched sawtooth waves just abusing your aural cavities. Just not very…musical…at all… I just really wish Skrillex would produce something where I’d listen to it and go “who is that?” instead of “oh that’s skrillex.” Because otherwise I can’t understand the hype that surrounds him. He’s just a much less talented, much more annoying sounding, one-man metal band.

Thats basically what “skrillex” is.. hype!
Sonny moore is the “front man” of the name. his job is to perform (or in his case beatmash)
I’m gonna go out on a limb.. an very fragile limb.. and say that Steve Duda is the main producer for skrillex.
This is pure speculation tho.. that has just always been my thought since I heard skrillex for the first time.

i have 15 minutes left of this, and its not that bad as far as brostep goes.
i tend to listen to stuff before i rag on someone, so now i can say he isnt a horrid dj, just not a good one. he made some dumb mistakes here and there, but not much.
(full disclosure: Im as hardcore as skrillex fans get)
skrillex should be probably best be viewed as a performer and not a DJ.
saying that, for all the hate he gets for not “mixing”, there are videos of him doing very good “mixing”. it just doesn’t suit his normal shows so he does the more aggro, dramatic stuff.
call him whatever you want. but a tru performer & dj of his caliber should stay on beat and know the basics when it comes to being a dj. Faking it is whack and you will get called out. Launching clips is not very technical.
he djs from ableton so its perfectly on beat. I’m pretty sure the primary objective of a dj is to entertain a crowd (which he does). he doesn’t fake it either lol.
but yes, from a technical standpoint what he does is not very technical (then again, nor is what most “djs” do)
I think the thing is, is that skrillex doesn’t even play music that most “DJ’s” would play. It is barely danceable, has odd sounds, and just sounds the same throughout. There is no breadth in style. He plays electronic metal/hardcore/scene music basically, but like I said, it’s far more annoying and requires less musical ability than getting a band together does. That’s probably why From First to Last was never very good - because they just weren’t very good musicians in their own right.
My girlfriend used to be in the hardcore scene when she was younger and booked bands like Valencia and Sky Vs. Sea. She had some pretty big headliners -for the scene she was in- when she was running shows and FFTL was not and is not a band she considers a well composed or musically talented. I’ve had a listen and I’m inclined to go with her opinion on that and I hardly defer to her for anything.
uhhh.. I don’t want to turn this into a thread about bashing..
BUT.. if its not faking.. then what is the point of turning knobs and pressing buttons that make no audible difference when you’re performing music.
I wouldn’t call him a fake performer.. because thats his job!
But I’m guessing he often tries to overly impress people with fake controller gestures.
It is what it is.. the guy is a commercial performer.. and gets the job done!

people don’t go there to listen to a proper set.. they go to listen to dubstep that is so poorly produced it needs its own sub-genre
I’ve seen him live a few times (once in a club set which was before he blew up to superstardom and twice passing by at festivals). His performance is much more similar to a typical rock show than EDM - its a lot more about a bunch of dudes just going fucking nuts and smashing the shit out of each other than dancing and keeping a club vibe.
Every thread about Skrillex just turns into people bitching about how he’s a shit DJ - but he’s not a DJ and never claimed to be. Its not really my style, but obviously the dude is good at what he does and knows how to rake in money.
