Want to build my own controller.total noob

Ok so i want to build my own midi controller
and i wanna know the cheapest way to do it

my idea that i want to go for is something like the midi fighter

so i have allready got the acarde buttons (sanwa) what else do i need?
and is it easy to do?

what board, wires tools etc…? if you could make me a shopping list would be great i am based in the uk so links would all so be great
going to buy a soldering iron this week to so would like to get cracking.

how many buttons are you wanting to do and are you going to want to have anything other than the buttons?

nah just buttons and its gonna be 8 or 10 buttons i have 10 but would like to use 8 or 10

Very Very easy build.

Go buy a Medium wooden storage box.(like the ones people put weed in)
Then Buy a Teensy

Drill holes it it for the arcade buttons. Then shove the buttons in it.

Buy some 22g speaker wire about 5feet.

You could then wire them like this; multiplexed.

or Direct like this.

so as in the last picture i just gotta have one wire going through all of them then wires on there own to go to each button?
and i have a box for it allready too so thats cool

Yea the black = ground

Just pick 1 prong on each button as a ground and wire them all together and send it to the ground terminal. Then wire each positive to their own terminal.

i get ya nice one
is there anywhere in the uk i pick up one of these boards?

not that I know of. They ship worldwide though.

its just postage costs as well, will add it all up and have to wait like 2 to 3 weeks witch sucks as wanna get cracking but cheers helped alot.

if not use an arcade pad pcb. then use an emulator.

so could i get say a ps2 controller and just desolder the buttons and add arcarde buttons instead?

yes.

hi everyone,
yesterday i received teensy 2.0 and i started testing it. i’ve made midifighter clone from gamepad before, now i want to build proper midi controller. so, my question is how could i expand digital ins in teensy board. i’ve seen guys using some chips to expand analog inputs (A Framework for Making Affordable & Stylish Modular Controllers (USB to MIDI, HID, or Serial) : 15 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables) could i use them with digital ins? my priority is as simple code as possible.

Guy, there is a sticky here for DIY controllers, and there is LOTS of information available for parts, brains, how-tos, build logs etc. Scroll up on the main page for controllers and mods.

i couldn’t find exact chip name for shifting digital ins on teensy board. so if someone could help me here, i would be very grateful.

there are tons of information on the blog, in the forums and even on eans youtube..

this is just two example

in my sig there’s link to my DIY midifighter.. check it out..
