wedding playlist

Sup I got a gig Offer for a wedding in June. This will be my first gig in this kind of venue. The client is looking for easy listening and soft rock(Beatles,Eagles. ect).To my fellow Dj’s that might have more experience with this venue or genre would you be willing and able to share some of your playlists or library’s and any tip and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I will dump one of my vdj playlists and post it up if ya want I’ve only had 2 gigs where the main request was something other then just country lol so will see what I can do

I’m in Ireland, and do a lot of weddings, but, I’m not sure my music would work in US.. it’s a different culture here..

bump

What sort of venue is it? And what kind of client are you playing to?
Consider the client isn’t the only person there. I’ve played loads of gigs where a groom or bridezilla has looked for certain music, that really doesn’t appeal to the greater audience, who just want to party.
Maybe the easily listening is for earlier in the evening which does make sense. Eagles, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac all have good songs to play, consider Maroon 5, One Republic too, and some George Ezra, there will be guests that want modern stuff, even if the host insists that easy listening and soft rock is the order of the day.. I’d play that kinda thing before the main party kicks off.. but then, Irish weddings have a tendency to go a bit crazy as the night goes on..
The roof is lifted when ya play the horrifically AWFUL ‘Maniac 2000’ by Mark McCabe.. (which fills dancefloors.. really!! and I would NOT recommend in USA) or John Ryan’s Polka.. which starts an almighty hooley..

Sorry didn’t get around to dumping my playlist last night will try to find some time to do it again tonight

Don’t underestimate the alcohol effect. You don’t want to be stuck with easy rock when the wedding reception starts gettin’ rowdy. I would bring an arsenal just in case. Bee Gees - Staying Alive, Rob Base - It Takes Two, Dee_Lite - Groove Is In The Heart, Beyonce, etc.

Wedding receptions want to party. Don’t be under-prepared.

^^^yes to all that, If you need 100 tracks bring 500.

Also, whassup loverocket! good to see your still hanging around.

My catalog is well over 80k tracks and I still find I don’t have everything

@DJAdeSands

I’d be interested in seeing a couple of your playlists. I’m currently UK based (I do some weddings, corporates, occasional club work), but maybe moving over to Ireland (Mayo), & will be looking at DJing over there.

No probs, Ian

ok ill start dumping this wedding was tough because it was large and 3/4 of the crowd wanted country including bride and groom but other 1/4 wanted stuff other then country so was a tough one.. as always have some lounge music because you will need it for supper or dinner and in between things something mellow and for people as they show up and such. I will continue dump another one that the crowd was less country oriented and another that was a younger couple who didn’t mind some more modern stuff.

I am based out of Saskatchewan Canada which is a real kind of country town so that’s why the older style songs and not so much pop and top 40

This kinda thing wouldn’t be a million miles away from what I do..

One thing worth doing is buying DMC disc set or hard drive sets they are a life saver

Yeah I have a extensive collection and i normally have itunes running when I do stuff… For my billing I always allow $50 for purchases of tracks nothing’s worse then feeling bad because you don’t have a song for someone who really wants to hear… For example typical wedding I charge between $700-$1200 depending on the exacts of it. For more of a cabarets type event like just play music for drunks I charge between $350 -$500 as I can bring less gear

That being said my biggest expense initially after sound gear was lighting and music..

I am looking to upgrade my sound rig to have more options as right now at smaller things my systems far too intrusive to be useful.

Currently I’m looking at picking up a pair of high grade 12 tops and high grade 218 subs likely will go with ev or pk depending when time comes on price and valuable capital.

Currently I rock 2 15 tops and 2 15 subs and a 12 high end sub to really add some crisp bass sound.

I run all powered speakers for ease of use and setup take down as I’m normally by myself so amount of pieces is important

I allocate half that to my slush fund then 45% to hardware upgrades and the remaining 5% to new tracks

Thank you everyone for the responses @loverocket i agree with everything you said and want to def go prepared. @djadesands thank you for those suggestions i will look into those. @ZxZDevilzxZ thanks for the playlist ill comb through some of those i already have some i would need to work on getting.

The client said she would book me for roughly a 5hr slot they would start with dinner so the easy listening would be great for the part the reception would roughly start 30mins after that about 7pm from her time line ending around 10:45-11Pm so im expecting to need roughly 300-500 tracks i mostly work with hip-hop, reggae , and EDM so that’s why i am asking for help and all of this is appreciated . I don’t want to go in their dropping nicki minaj on them if you know what i mean.

Honestly I found the best dinner music is kinda easy listening is some ambient or chill lounge also jazz really fits well..

The biggest thing I do is ask the bride and groom list of25 to 50 must hear and the. A list of 25 or 50 that absolutely don’t want played… This when done properly goes miles for having a very successful night…

It does a few things but obviously it gives you insight onto musical taste and really allows you to spread out over genres… It also helps for when drunk cunts that aren’t signing your check get bugging ya can pull out list and point to a track being on the total not to play list… You’d be surprised how cunty drunk people can get.
