Shit display. I hated Traktor on a 1366x768 screen with my old laptop. The sweet spot is to find a 15.4in laptop with a 1080p screen. That is the sweet spot.
Agreed, you want a 1080p display really for Traktor.
Also worth noting is that the GPU in this one sucks, the Intel HD 3000 is PAINFULLY slow; not an issue if you’re just DJing with the machine, but if you intend to use it for anything else (gaming, ANYTHING that requires CUDA rendering), you’re SOL.
thanks for all the input, after looking I agree about the screen size and i’ll to find larger first.
Also wanted to ask what do yall think about the difference between the 250GB SSD and the 500GB SSD? All i plan on using this for is djing and some production. On some models it’s a $100-$300 difference in prices between the two…havent bought an SSD before, just know it’s supposed to be better, but do I really need the 500GB?
Both are absolute BEASTS! I’d love to get my hands on either one.
Always go for the bigger HD, though. Empty space on a drive is as important as overall capacity You computer will run better with more empty space on it…
I wouldn’t worry about the specs on either of those (processor speed, GPU, RAM etc.) as they’re all…well…beyond fine! It would run Traktor about 10 times over (give or take a bit of exaggeration).
It’s the screen that’s going to be the decider - a whopping 17" screen is extremely tempting and will probably pay off but you always end up paying a premium when it comes to screens (I use a regular 15"/1366x768 and even two decks feels cramped when you factor in the browser) - it’s really up to you if it’s worth the cash. If you’re going to spend $1100 odd anyway, are you prepared to fret over another $100?
Even though the ASUS is $150 more, I think you’re just about getting $150 dollars more stuff as well, so it pays off. In fact, some places would probably charge you that for the privilege of the screen alone.
There is just one word of warning I’d like to give though, and that’s about the USB 3.0 ports; some people (myself included) have said that they don’t always play nice with Native Instruments audio interfaces (I dont know about other devices) - they blue-screened my PC when using an Audio 2, but worked fine in the USB 2.0 slot. Im not sure how widespread this problem really is though. But it happened to me and it’s happened to others.
To be honest I’m not sure the difference between the two. but it does have 4 usb ports, which is handy considering I would like to use controller, F1 and launchpad together
There’s no physical difference, just some USB ports are designated USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. Obviously, the 3.0s are newer/faster/better (or supposed to be).
The HP laptop has 2x USB 2.0 ports, and 2x USB 3.0 ports, whereas the ASUS has 4x USB 3.0 ports – so what I’m saying is, if you have any trouble with the 3.0s, there’s no alternative, whereas in the HP, you can always jack it in another slot and see if it works if you have any problems. I’ll let you decide for yourself how important you feel this is:
I wouldn’t risk buying a Windows laptop that comes with only USB 3.0 ports unless you can 100% confirm that the specific laptop model works with your sound card.
