what effect is this?

what effect is this?

sorry if this does not belong here and sorry for my ignorance but i was wondering what effect at 9:06-9:10 is?

the build up sweep thing ?

something like this maybe ?

white noise with a sweeping bandpass filter

or this … maybe add some reverb

Wrong wrong and wrong, is no one watching the video?

The white noise whoosh is already on the track, the TS is asking what effect he is doing - which is a simple delay coupled with changing between the parameters 1/1, 2/1 etc. Nicky is just making it look over-complicated as he’s setting up the mixer to start the set.

i didnt mean the sweep. i should of clarified how the beat doubles then echoes more.

yes thats what i meant. so its just a simple delay? how do alot of djs get it to be so clear cut on the beat? when i try to do it in ableton it just sounds so muddied up.

The DJM2000, which he is mixing on, allows you to put FX on the low, mid or high of the track, so different parts will cut through.

And yes, welcome to DJTT…where people don’t actually read what you ask but instead choose to wander off in their own direction hahaha!

hahah. you wouldnt happen to know if there is any way to emulate this through serato dj would you?

I believe this is called the Axe Effect.

yeah because the question was very specific

You need an isolate FX unit to get it exact live. Pioneer’s newer units have it as standard, it’s not hard to set up in Ableton (and as always with Ableton it’s far more versatile), Deckadance 2 has it built in, there’s a very raw, moderately difficult mapping method that can be done in Traktor, and as for Serato, I have no idea.

Beatslicer on the kick by the sounds of it.

LMFAO @ 10:22 btw. He’s looking around thinking… “where the fuck do I put these headphones down?”

I’ve had that exact same thought myself several times in new/unfamiliar venues lol.

I’ve only watched the section you asked, but just by listening it sounds like a Roll or Stutter effect. A quick glimpse and the mixer looks like the DJM-2000. That mixer has a Roll Effect on it or if your using Traktor Pro has Beatmasher or BeatSlicer which does pretty much the same job.

That’s what one’s neck is for! Deeerh!

Haha :stuck_out_tongue: Personally I rarely put mine around my neck because they’re dual-entry, and I run the risk of messing my hair up if I actually put them ON. Same reason I despise headphones that you can’t rotate or invert the cups 180 :stuck_out_tongue:!

i dont know what the problem figuring this out was
its an easy echo effect.
THis happens perfectly on the Pioneer Efx 500
setting the echo at 1/1 then while its echoing hit 3/4 then hit 1/1 again.
Sounds exactly the same
i just tried it over one of my tracks

i recognized it quickly because i do this often on some short builds in the begining of songs on my show

Its just an echo and Abelton should be able to recreate that no problem

While we’re talking about technique here, I’ve always wondered how to do the thing he does with the vocals at 22:00.

looks like he locks the pitch, has the phrase repeat and then uses the slider to change the pitch and speed it up.

sorry if im ingorant ive never used any of pioneers products so i dont exactly know what the effects are called.

simple 1 beat loop on the acapella, adjust loop out via the jog wheel (hitting loop out after setting up a loop on cdjs lets you adjust the end of the loop by spinning the jog wheel in either direction, making the loop longer or shorter), disable master tempo, pitch it up.
