What Macbook to get for DJing?

What Macbook to get for DJing?

I need help from you guys. So i currently have an older macbook which i use to produce music. I recently decided to pick up djing so i bought a s4 and installed traktor on my macbook. Problem is my old macbook cant handle traktor. It glitches up and sends tracks off beat. Ive adjusted latency and tried anything that would work. But nothing. I figure my macbook doesnt have enough RAM to handle everything i have on it. So with all that novel i just wrote, I NEED A NEW MACBOOK!
So im on a budget and was wondering if anyone has bought the new bottom of the line 13.3 Macbook Pro, 4GB Memory, 500 GB. i5 processor. I wanna know if those specs would be enough to run traktor smoothly? Glitch free? I will be using that mac for strictly DJing. Nothing else.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks fam!

I’m running it with a Core 2 Duo it does the job nicely. So yes, you should be fine.

That’s what I use, but I want to get a bigger laptop with a bigger hard drive. I have a huge music library, plus school work, Photoshop, etc.

But you said it was “strictly for djing. Nothing else”. Which is it?

I’ve had a mid-09 15" MBP 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo with 256MB RAM since new and am now running OSX 10.7. Absolutely love the thing and have never had a single issue running TP2 with my S4.

Thanks for all the replys guys. Sounds like the 13 inch 500gb i5 processor will work just fine. I also have the older 13 inch core 2 duo with 256mb RAM. I run ableton Live, Reason, Pro tools, Tons of plug ins, Vsts on it to produce music. So adding traktor to that list didnt really work. Kept getting freezes, glitches.
Yes i will only be using the new macbook for strictly Djing. Traktor and my music library. Nothing else

You might want to consider using the old mac for strictly DJing and use the new one for all the production software/VSTs.

Got the same mbp but with 320 gb, can handle traktor in a great way, latency set to 8 ms and CPU never go up 1/4 of usage.
I use it for everything, traktor ableton cad programs for work and university ( and yeah, also some games)
So, it’s ok in my opinion.

^ That right there should run Traktor fine, I’m guessing it has more then 256mb ram (unless it was made in 1998), and you mean cache or something with the CPU or possibly gig for the hard drive.

I don’t think it’s your computer specs making Traktor glitch… I’ve run Traktor perfectly on less then that, and if it’s just RAM thats a really cheap upgrade.

Also, hard drive space means pretty much nothing to Traktor aside from storing music. It’ll never effect the performance.

Hey!

As far as my opinion is concerned, I would recommend you Apple MacBook Pro MGXA2LL/A 15.4-Inch. It’s one of the best MacBooks available nowadays. You get 2880*1800 screen resolution, incredible colors, Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz processor, 128 MB of embedded memory, ultrafast cache, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac compatibility features. I’ve been using it from quite long, and I must tell you that I really loved the Backlit Chiclet-style keyboard and the trackpad which is clickable designed. There’s no mouse click button, thus it saves space. All you have to do is just tap one finger, tap twice to click and right click respectively. Its simply amazing, at least for me.

Does the Macbook Air with flash storage work fine for Djing?

No reason why not. Its just a laptop and a hard drive.

Ban this spam click-through fucker with extreme prejudice.

Edit: thanks mods for removing the quoted link from my post. Im a stupid head.

Absolutely, my 11" Air from 2011 works great for Traktor.

If my 2 cents are not to late; upgrade to an SSD drive if you’re picking the base MacBook Pro. That delivers so much speed, you won’t believe it.

Check out refurbs there’s lots there with great options and are well worth the money saved

This!! I got a 2013 Refurbished 13.3-inch MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5 (8GB of RAM) with Retina Display for $1050.

They must be referring to the integrated graphics card they ship with (GForce 9400m 256mb) or a 250ish GB HDD, these shipped with 2gb of RAM and can take up to 8gb.

My mid 2010 has 2gb of ram and handles Traktor fine I can’t see how that one wouldn’t.

I use a 13 inch MacBook Pro late 2011 (non-retina) with 240 GB SSD and 2*4 = 8 GB RAM. For saving my music I’ve built myself a 7200 rpm external HDD out of a HDD (what else ) and a external USB 3.0 enclosure (~ 15 bucks on amazon). So I got for about 65 € (I live in Germany…) a whole 1 TB USB 3.0 7200 rpm external HDD! (And now give me a link for that but cheaper! You won’t find one )
My MacBook Pro is from www.asgoodasnew.com (I payed about 850 €) and I can recommend that shop!
