What up my fellow djs and producers! I’m running Traktor Pro 2 & maschine MKII on a pc and I just cant do it anymore! Ive upgraded the ram to the max and that helped a lil bit but not enough. So I’m thinking of upgrading to a MacBook Pro and wanted to know what is a good Mac that I should get. It’s pretty much only going to be for djing,music production and editing. What specs should I look for ( this would be my first mac and I want it to be the best one I can afford ) Theres are two that ive been looking at.
Don’t really use MACs, but do look into the screen issue. Wouldn’t be worth it to drop thousands then having to pay for your screen to be fixed a year later. The specs of the MACs are solid though. Processor and RAM specs are good.
I don’t know about producing but a few months back I picked up a mid 2010 i5 macbook pro with brand new internals for $550 to be my dedicated DJ machine. I upgraded the RAM to 8gb and haven’t ran into a single problem using timecode vinyl. Your mileage may vary
I suggest ordering a macbook from Apple.com, just to be sure to have the latest.
I’d say the cheapest 15-inch model will just do fine for your needs, but if you’re talking about video-editing, go for the highest model.
Personally have the 13-inch, mid model. So 8Gb Ram, i5, 256 SSD, works fine with all DJ Software, I’ve tried. Producing should be fine and light video-editing.
But if you want something really good and reliable, the most expensive option is the best.
i recently finally got my macbook pro (new 15" retina), leaving windows behind forever, … happy man.
Music even sounds better on my macbook, also in my recordings, with the same mixer and soundcard (Xone 4D)
Finally Ableton and Traktor buried the battle hammer and became best friends aswel.

Runs brilliantly with Traktor Pro 2.
It’s used just for DJ’ing, no porn, no games, only internet usage is when I’m downloading from reputable music outlets.
