Title is pretty self explanatory. What do you listen to when you’re not listening to what you spin?
Personally, I’m fairly well obsessed with Joy Division and the Smiths. I don’t spin vinyl anymore, but I do have a record collection that consists largely of British Post-Punk music from the early/mid 80s.
Lots of different stuff really, in fact during the day I don’t listen to much dance music. I love these guys who are local and being doing the rounds for years and always at Glastonbury somewhere!
I only listen to two other types of music “Country” & “Western”…
not really lol… I like bitsa everything - 70’s rock, hip hop from mid 90’s to mid 2000, triphop, sublime “they get their own catagory”, New Zealand dub… Really anything but death metal
Well, I rarely listen to stuff other than modern dance music anymore, but if I do it’s probably:
Hiphop (well, mainly the stuff until about 95, preferably of the western gangsta variety)
Funk (oh how I love thee, George Clinton)
(Italo-)Disco (well, technically speaking that’s dance music, right?)
Jazz
some (classic) rock (but very rarely, not a rock kind of guy in general, but Hendrix is cool for example)
Anything really.. My iTunes is like an archive, I don’t like saying I like a specific genre of music, it’s too square..
It’s all a matter of mood - Lately been listening mainly to Folk\Blues, classics like Dylan and Neil Young along modern stuff like Tallest Man on Earth (amazing!) and Fleet Foxes
I love and collect just about every kind of music I can get my hands on. Lately been really getting into old Delta blues as well as current bands that use that sound (like Eden and John’s East River String Band from Bklyn), and I really love the Dixieland/jazz/blues sound that so many artists in New Orleans continue to build on and update. I also dig old country (particularly compilations of weird obscure stuff like The World is a Monster) and jazz. I love old punk rock but I don’t listen to it that often. I don’t really know shit about black metal and stuff like that but I used to be a huge heavy metal fan back when metal meant Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult and the like. And I love any kind of rock n roll from the 1950s onward, particularly the more obscure stuff, but I don’t follow enough of what’s happening nowadays to know most of the bands that people are into. Same with hip hop, I’ve been a huge fan since Sugarhill Gang (literally; I knew every word back in 1981 or whenever it was) and I have a badass collection of hip hop on vinyl from the mid-80s to the mid-90s but if not for snacksandshit.com I wouldn’t know Wacka Flacka from Tech N8ne or whatever. But I guess that counts as “dance music” so I won’t get into my passion for old funk and disco …
