What would you do?

What would you do?

I have at the moment a VCI-100SE and 2 X Kontrol X1’s. Thinking of maybe selling all 3 and going for the S4, what would you all do? and what would i xpect to get for my gear? The Kontrol X1’s come with the bags and have been used twice and still have some warranty left, the VCI has the the DJTT overlay, yellow knobs and faders, is in mint condition and has been flashed to firmware 1.4 and i have the flash kit too. Do you think il be far off the cost of an s4? bearing in mind i can get an s4 for about £660 at the moment.. let me know your thoughts guys..

alot of people would sware there life to the s4 but i would keep your set up. use the x1’s, on eather side of the vci

whats your reasons for this pls? u feel its better than the S4?

More flexible - you can play off a subset of what you’ve got.

The S4 is fucking massive and a total pig to fit in a booth - it is quite nice though.

to be honest i dont go out gigging no more at the minute, im not saying i wont ever go out again, but its good to know if the s4 is a pain to fit in a typical booth..

The S4 is smaller than a VCI with two X1’s sitting on either side. It looks like VCI’s are going for about $400 or so and you could probably expect about $180 for each X1 with the bag, maybe a little more. That’s puts you pretty dang close to the cost of an S4.

I’m happy with my current setup which is not far off yours, but I was very tempted by the S4 when it came out…

Weigh up the features and benefits I guess! I can’t give you too much advice cos I don’t know your style and workflow etc, but I’m sure you would like an S4 if you did end up changing.

The S4 is 5 inches wider than the VCI so a VCI and 2 X1s (including cases) is exactly "way’ bigger than an S4

Also is much easier to plonk one unit in top of something than it is a VCI and 2 X1s on a booth where there may not be any flat surfaces. I think a lot of people over look this.

Keep the x1’s and use them along side a proper mixer. Thats what I would do if I had two x1’s

The S4 is cool, but overrated IMO. Keep your setup, vci for decks A/B and x1’s for sampledecks/fx when traktor 2 hits the markets.

Yeah, i also have a Pioneer DJm600 mixer lol, i know its not the best mixer in the world but its pretty good, thats how i worked until i got the VCI..Kinda missed the jog wheels after having CDJ’s lol… altho i like sorry love what i have know, i also like the idea of having just one bit of kit that will do everything instead of 3 to do the same job, 1 usb lead as apposed to 3 hmmm…

So, does anyone in the uk fancy doing a deal, my Vestax VCI-100SE, my 2 Kontrol X1’s and my Audio 8 soundcard for an S4? haha is that a fair deal do you think?

Paul, if you wanna see if the S4 is right for you pop round to my house and have a good old bash on mine.

Anytime bro, just arrange it.

When i come last month to the shop and buyed the Reloop Dijital Jockey Master Edition 2 by 375€, they let me touch the NI Kontrol S4, and honestly it have the same “chinese plastic” feeling when you push the buttons or turn the knobs.
S4 is specifically designed for traktor, and have better access to control the new sample decks. As long i consider myself a beginner, and money is an issue to me, i would not buy it for twice the price of the Reloop (wich is pretty similar to your VCI-100SE).
On the other hand, if money were not an issue for me, for sure i would buy it, to then start to dream about the Pioneer DDJ-S1 hehe.
Jokes apart you have equipment strong enough to wait for a price reduction on the S4.
And yes, is very big !!

You will be lucky to get more than half price, ballpark it around $500. You could just throw the items out there and see what offers you get. Perhaps put a reserve on ebay for the lot.

imo, I would rather have your setup than a S4.

I would keep your current setup and add a midi capable mixer to the pot. you’re crazy to sell the x1’s mate

I would be lucky to get $500 for my set up? r u for real? a VCI-100SE, 2 x Kontrol X1’s which have been used twice still have probably 6 months warranty and come with bags and an audio 8 soundcard thats 6 months old too… i personally think that little lot is worth £650 and that would almost cover the cost of the s4…

i just feel having the S4 is like what ive got but all in one unit…

would be good that mate, will get intouch when i get a spare few hours of a weekend, busy looking for a new house at the min lol…

A good point if you want to travel with your equipment.
I think the S4 + a Laptop, Barely fits the airlines hand baggage allowances
