Which headphones to choose? (yes another can thread…but important!) :slight_smile:

Hey guys I know there are 1000’s of headphone threads out there, but nothing really pertaining to my question. I currently own a pair of Sennheiser HD 205’s, and I really like them. They not the best you can buy, but they havn’t let me down so far. Recently though I’ve decided to upgrade my cans, and keep these ones as a backup. If I had no budget I would prob get the Pioneer HD2000’s, but they cost way to much! Instead I’ve set myself a budget to a max of $200. I’ve been looking and searching the net, and these boards and have narrowed it down to 3 cans. Its either the Sennheiser Hd 25 ii’, AiAiAi TMA 1, or the new Pioneer Hd 500. The first 2 I can find for under $200, (and I know that they are both excellent) and the new Hd 500’s cost $100. I’m very interested in the new Pioneers, they look great and have great specs, but I cant find any user reviews about them. Are they as good as the rest? Are they worth getting? If they are then I’m definetly interested in them cos I can save some $$$. Whats your opinion guys? Thanks. :slight_smile:

Are the new pioneers even out yet? If they are get some and write a review so others will know if they’re good or not.

Um I’m not sure, I checked online and I saw a few sites already selling them. they look awesome, but are they as good as Pioneer makes them out to be? thats the question…

The aiaiais are a rip off, unless you are a style junkie, with your budget definitely the senheisers.

I got the Beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80ohm, which I find to be amazing. The noise cancellation, the way it cuffs your ears, and build quality are great. Priced at $175, they won’t let you down.. oh and they got great reviews online, check it out.

i love my denon hp 1000s and i paid about 160 for them 2 years ago but i never used any other headphones to compare them too, but i would have noticed if anything was lacking

im sure the hdj 500s will be good though

HDJ 500s will be released 2nd/3rd week of november, I have a pre-order on them, will write a review as soon as I get them, I will be one of the first to receive them.

outstanding audio reproduction and great isolation for djing in loud environments. i also own the HD-25s and honestly use the M50’s way more…

the hd25’s do get slightly better isolation, but the latter are a better balance in the studio and in the club. you can also find them on amazon for around $120 shipped

You know, honestly I’m in a similar boat, but just about to buy my first set of quality cans.

Right now I’m really torn between the aiaiai tma-1’s and the sennheiser hd 25-1 ii’s. It’s really a toss up, and both seem like extremely good headphones. Basically the same price (+ or - a few bucks) and some people seem to like one over the other better.

I don’t personally know anyone with either, so I can’t really “test” them myself easily either.

Right now I’m leaning toward the aiaiai’s. For the sheer fact that I love that matte black finish, and they look quite rugged. There aren’t a /ton/ of reviews out on them though, but what I’ve seen I’ve liked. (Aiaiai’s also make some really stylish other headphones as well).

Hey BigC we are in the same situation! I’ve just included the Pioneer’s into my choice cos the price factor, but I’d much prefer the other two. Well DJTT carries the TMA’s so I’m sure they must be great or they wouldnt offer them on this site right? I’m really not sure.. :open_mouth:

If I had the $ and I didn’t already have headphones I’d probably go for the AIAIAIs just for the cool factor … The Sennheisers are probably slightly better sounding from a pure listening perspective but I would bet the AIAIAI’s are going to sound pretty damn good too, and the best part is they are built from the ground up to tolerate the abuse DJs give headphones on a regular basis. But really you won’t go wrong with either choice.

The Pioneers are also probably a great choice, and if budget is an issue that’s where I’d look. I’m sure you will squeeze much better sound quality out of the other two but Pioneers are no slouch and chances are these will sound even better than their flagship 1000’s (though not nearly as good as their expensive but gorgeous 2000s). Other headphones I’d consider in the $100 and below price range are the Ortofons or the A+H XD-40s; I have the 53s and I am in love with their sound and feel (though they are obviously a lot more expensive).

Light, fits very well, solid, great sound, best isolation + stylish
proven for years : save investment you won’t regret
I’ve had mine for 2 years, best DJ gear purchase I ever made.

Yeah thats what I’ve been thinking about them. I am sorto fo on a budget but if they really are that good then I can also just save up a bit longer.

Thanks I’m def looking at getting them, but the AIAIAI’s also look soooo good.
