Which tablet as an add-on controller, programmable surface.
I have been going back and fourth on whether to get a tablet or not for a while now. More recently though I have been looking at TouchOSC and the likes and am beginning to feel like an iPad might be the way to go. When it comes to tablets I have no preference in operating system. Vendor support from DAW/DJ vendors is probably more important.
In terms of what I will do with it, its likely to be used for effects and/or as an interface for Ableton etc. I don’t see myself using anything but the S4 as my primary controller for a long time. My current set up is S4+MF Classic+Vestax Pad-One.
What are you guys doing with tables today specific to mixing and/or production? What apps are you using? What are the pros and cons of your set up and what would you buy going forward, knowing what you know now?
Do you have Mac or windows ? trust me it makes a difference.
if you have a mac get it the setup is super easy and hassle free. you have to pay a bit but its worth it
but on a windows computer you have to download several program and set that up.
iPad without question especially if you plan to run ableton. There is no comparison to Touchable.
they have native modules for some ableton units in the app, you can run two ipads at once to have more combinations of controllers at once. the xyz units are crazy fun
atm there doesn’t seem to be many software alternatives for anything other than the ipad. i’d love to try a tablet, but don’t want to fork out the cash for an ipad and there doesnt seem to be anything interesting out for android yet.
decent capacitive android tablets are getting cheaper tho - so who knows… maybe sometime…
I would buy an iPAD1 16gb without 3g used from someone…
I’m sure there will be plenty of people wanting ipad2 just to use the camera for facetime calls…
And if your iPAD is for DJing, you doesn’t need more then 16gb and sure doesn’t need 3g connect neither…
