Seriously, where the hell was i until TONIGHT. i’d heard of it and i guessed it was somehow related to d’n’b but duuuuude…these basslines are illmatic x 4. i can’t believe i procrastinated this long to finally give dubstep a chance..and now i can’t see me ever NOT listening to this shit. some of the most ill i’ve heard so far would be:
kromestar - jumpin
kid sister - pro nails (rusko remix)
bar 9 - murda sound
radikal guru - strong dub (orig. mix)
am i on the right track towards quality dubstep?
i have a new found respect for anyone who has known about dubstep longer than i have, for they are far smarter than i.
Yeah I pretty much found out about dubstep and never moved back. I mean I still like DnB n electro n shit, but as a Bass whore dubstep wins.
I pretty much spin exclusively dubstep now if I have a choice, but drop some dnb/funky/electro in the mix as well.
@ Jack: You know Wascal? His stuff is tight! Hook me up with some exclusives yo ;]
Would be keen to get him to NZ if hes down for it. Dubstep is exploding here right now. Caspa sold the fuck out had last night. 100 people lined up at the door @ 8:45. I run a Friday dubstep night so would be keen to pimp his stuff.
@hopnotik: You seem to be on the right track, but I’d sort of stay away from the Rusko stuff, its somewhat cheesy, I mean its dancefloor as fuck and people love it, but once you hear the deeper stuff then you realise what I mean.

Yeah, me and Wascal have been good friends for years. He’s been the best producer I know since I’ve known him and it’s really nice to see him getting the props he deserves.
I’ll send him a link to this thread now and get you two introduced.
Sic!! Always keen to talk to other Dubstep producers/DJs, I mostly just spin & promote at the moment, but one of my my mates has been making some siiic dubstep tunes recently.
sounds cool was actually listening to some dubstep last night, I think I will go put all the dubstep I ahve on my ipod and give it a go today during work, wish I could download that mix but I don’t think I am allowed to DL mp3 files as I think they have a filter for em, so it will have to wait.
That’s pretty cool and all, but for the hit of the whole fruit you’ll need to stick the 'step through a tasty sound system. It works best when the bass is rattling your insides about.
midian you gotta take back that ‘cheesy’ shit, they are just producers of some of the most popular hits in dubstep, otherwise Rusko would def be in that list lol.
Cliche would a better choice of word, or even essential considering that this thread is for someone new to dubstep
Its a shame that dubstep is getting to the stage where there are mainstream tunes and underground tunes.
Check out High Rankin, Ed Solo, N-Type, S.I.N, Matty G, BabySham as well.
Excision is fk’n sic. Hes just signed a couple of NZ Artists, Cheshire & Jackal, Sick Cycle, both of who are playing a gig I’m holding soon ;D Would be mad keen to get him over to NZ.
Rusko’s older stuff is mean, but some of his newer stuff is nearly not dubstep anymore more bassline house or something.
Definitely not bassline . I’d say things on the east coast of the US is moving more towards bass influenced music be it Dubstep 4x4 Bassline or what ever you wanna call it . I’ll be sure link some of you guys up with some promo links for Starkey’s Street Bass Anthems #4 I’ve heard most of the tracks that are gonna be on it and it’s fuckin sick !
I’m having a hard time jumping on the dubstep bandwagon. I mean it’s not bad. it’s actually really cool.. but, i still feel like every song is made from the same VST. They all have that same ultra dirty metal electro sound - which is really tight, but it gets old for a whole set. (here comes the “u could say that about every genre” rebuttals). Throw it in at the 3/4 mark of a set for 2 tracks, then get out for the finale; but not a whole set. It’s basically the same argument i got flamed for on the dnb is dead thread.
and im out.
