I feel bad when i get back from a gig with my ears ringing and i really value my ears but it’s just a fear of looking like a tit with ear plugs i suppose :S
Especially if you’re out on the pull :\
I’m reading this as i still have muffled hearing from wakestock at the weekend and i think i will invest in some quality hard to see plugs.
(OT: Pete Tong was SICK!)
yeap well i always knew i would develop some sort of tinnitus - went clubbing early (when i was 17 with a fake id) , started spinning when i was 19 , now im 26 and all those noises must have done some sort of damage to me
even before i was djing i loved listening to metal/loud music on my walkman headphones (back then we had cassette tapes - no discmans or ipods!)
plus im a gym junkie and i always wear my earphones + ipod when i workout (5-6 days a week, one hour per session)
plus lately ive been gridding my tracks in traktor thru the headphones (late at night cant turn the sound up) - and spend hours on this as well,
now i really take care of my ears, i always wear earplugs when i go out (got a custom made one) - the ringing is not always there, its like on and off and very faint - before it gets any worse im taking it easy on my ears
Haha, I think Drum & Bass already has the song you’re looking for
“You know that ringing in your ears?
That: eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?
That’s the sound of the ear cells dying.
Once it’s gone you’ll never hear that frequency again”
I mean, loud music illicits both a psychological and physical response. People LIKE it to be loud. Personally, I wear earplugs whenever I can. I went to go see sleigh bells last night, a band I thought was going to destroy me with raw volume. had plugs in. Took them out after 1 song because they were not terribly loud.
Actually it would be a lot funnier if tinnitus wasn’t so serious. I have permanent tinnitus in my left ear. I’m not even going to go the it-inhibits-my-hearing route.
It sucks. It’s annoying. When it’s quiet, all I hear is that same kind of high pitched ringing after a night at the club. Except it doesn’t go away. It just chills. And it’s always down to kick it, like an unwelcome house guest. Remember when you were a kid and you had sleepovers and there was always that one kid who wouldn’t shut up when everyone was trying to sleep and you just wished he would go away? It’s like that.
Awhile back I started really noticing the ringing, it got me really worked up, nervous, and worried…
After I saw an audiologist and found out I had no hearing damage, I notice the ringing a lot less…
they don’t fit perfectly, kinda push them into my ears a little bit, but it sure beats having muffly foam earplugs. When I’m mixing I don’t have my headphones on a lot anyway
You ask why people don’t wear ear plugs?
Because they think there no cool.
Who cares what people think, they party once/twice a week, go home and forget that they even where out, you on the other hand try to make a living for that, not many people are like Beethoven.
Protect those ears, you only have one set.
Take care of them.
I have a pair of reusable silicone formed earplugs. I bought them at a chemist - they’re actually industrial hearing protection, designed for building sites.
They cut out pretty much everything for 20db odd, much worth it. Music sounds great with them in.
They’re designed for flat out noise cancelling when the performance ear plugs are designed to cut out certain frequencies while still retaining the original sound. Spend more gain more.
