Why use machine in ableton, if you can use Push?
Hi,
I see a lot of dj’s use maschine as a plugin into ableton, but why? What’s the advantage?
What’s the difference in use when using push?
Thnx!

Maschine has its own audio libraries and workflow, which some people prefer over Push. Running it as a plugin in Ableton means you can make use of Ableton’s effects and SEND/RETURN features as well.
Man you know a lot! Can’t you just zip your brain and mail it to me. ![]()
Meaning that the maschine has no effects?
Thanks!
of course maschine has effects also ..
Yeah, I simply meant that people might prefer to use Ableton’s effects racks over Maschine’s. Ableton has a certain elegance that Maschine lacks.
The content and versatility mainly. Maschine’s library is quite more versatile and ready to use comparing it to Ableton and they release expansion packs quite often.
If you are dead set on using Ableton then Push makes more sense as a controller but with Maschine you can easily jump between different DAWs.
My 2c:
For me using Push is sitting down with it alongside a computer screen and a mouse and going back and forth between the two. Ableton is undoubtebdly more feature rich and powerful for making a whole track.
That said when I use Maschine Studio it is on my lap on the couch not even looking at the computer which I find more comfortable/inviting. I find it quicker to get a groove going in Maschine using the browser/categories with all its tagged content and super easy to manipulate, flip and resample audio from pad to pad from just using the hardware. I assume this holds true with a lot of others coming from an MPC workflow. Could just be because I used it first and for longer though, maybe someday Push will seem easier to use.
These are good points for production, but I think the question was more about DJ setups. But yeah, I can get behind this.
EDIT: Also, the Maschine Studio is a fucking beast of a controller, making it almost unwieldy for DJing with. I certainly wouldn’t want to lug it to gigs all the time.

What are the alternatives to add claps, high hats, etc to your mix?
You could always get a drum machine or sampler and have that hooked up to a channel of it’s own. With an audio interface with MIDI out, you could potentially sync it too.
Model suggestions? ![]()
Roland TR-8 if you’re looking for the closest thing to an 808/909.
If you’re looking for something cheaper and smaller, the KORG Volca Beats is a fun little unit to play with.
i just bought a second hand arturia sparkle, curious if i like it, downside its just a controller for a software based program, though it should work just fine along side and synced to traktor
I know the tr-8, but not clear to me it has the option to use one button to create a rhythm. It seems to me that you need to press the buttons on the exact location in the sequence row.
Maschine and push has that option. To use the sequence and to us it as a fingerdrum.
Or am I wrong by saying this about the tr-8?
It kind of does.
If you press the ‘Inst Rec’ button each drum hit is assigned to each of the 16 buttons so you can play it live in a way similar to maschine. However I don’t think the buttons are velocity sensitive.
Life would be much easier if we saw an easy Maschine/Traktor integration - I think NI would get more people as well jumping on the Maschine bandwagon as it would make life so much easier…(doubt it’ll happen any time soon
)
Yeah I’d love that, Something kind of like ableton and serato did with the bridge but hopefully a bit more popular. I’d gladly sacrifice a track deck if the signal from maschine could be sent out of it. I should point out that I don’t own maschine at the moment but would buy one if they did this
I would never give up the 4th deck. ![]()
Until I have the cash for a xone 92 and a separate interface for maschine it’s a sacrifice I’d be prepared to make.
You van have a drum sequencer in traktor with the midi fighter twister. ![]()
