I also have the same MB (penryn) w/ 2.4ghz and 2GB of RAM on SL 10.5.8. I have a S4 and X1 hooked up to it and its still running strong . No lagging or chopping that I can see/hear. As a precautionary step I will be doing a upgrade to 4GB, as soon as I can figure out how to map this damn LPD8… lol.
If anything I would say just get everything set up and take it for a “spin”. I personally will wait for lion to be released
i run T2 with s4 on a dual core intel 2.3ghz, 2gb ram, nvidia 8600 (256 dedicated ram)
with his dedicated win7 partition runs just flawless.
ok.. but will there be any improvement in performance upgrading from OS X 10.5.8 to 10. 6 (snow Leopard) ?? or should I just stick to 10.5.8.. ?
Probably gonna be running T2 with the S4 from next weekend on. So just trying to prepare my Mac for that.
No real performance gain for Traktor, but I like 10.6 better.
You’ll be fine with Snow Leopard. I really don’t know how S4 works on 10.5 but I haven’t had any problem with S4 (or traktor scratch pro 3) while using snow leo.
Why havent you upgraded your operating system? You would have a bit faster computer tho. I remember when I upgraded from leo to snow leo I noticed a good difference, even in graphics.. You should just upgrade to snow!
Snow Leo is also a great deal more efficient with your RAM than Leo was. Also, Leo is already EOL and Snow Leo will soon be too when Lion comes out. Maybe wait for Lion and pick that up if or when TP2 is compatible.
I went on the theory " if it aint broken.. dont fix it " hence delayed the upgrade.
I remember at some point early last year or late 09 I checked the NI forums and some ppl were having a few issues with Traktor PRO running on Snow Leo.
But Thanks for the input guys.. I will grab the upgrade tonight. I dont see my self trying out Lion atleast till the end of the year.. unless there is significant improvement for Traktor.
As mentioned before I only use this machine for Traktor PRO and dont really get on the internet or anything so wouldn’t think I’d have a lot of clutter on it.
My main priority is to make sure Traktor is running aswel as it did on Leopard, so should I just do a time machine backup and Upgrade to 10.6 or do a clean install of 10.6 ?

If i wear upgrading I would back everything up and do a fresh install. That means installing everything one by one. It’s more work, but you get a nice clean system when you’re done.

As it is I have 45% free disk space and use this machine for only Audio.. ableton and traktor and I never connect to the internet unless its for software/system updates, so maybe It’s still probably quite clean ?
I’m yet to get my S4 and Traktor 2 . Also thinking about upgrading to a larger Hard Drive so for now maybe I will just upgrade to 10.6 and see how Traktor Pro 1.2.7 runs.. and do a clean install once I change my Hard Drive, and its time to set up the S4 and T2..
Unless ofcourse anyone’s had issues with the simple upgrade to 10.6..
oh and when I decide to do the clean install of OS X..

I don’t think anyone answered how a multi core CPU works so here goes:
a core2duo at 2.4ghz is just 2 cores at 2.4ghz. So that is 2.4ghz x 2. They do not work together to be this super processor. How it works is the 2 cores are used to load balance whatever your computer is doing. So instead of one 2.4ghz core being maxed out the load is generally balanced between both.
except Trakor unfortunately doesn’t utilise multiple cores yet. Major oversight IMO.
