Will They Blend? Mix Challenge Official Thread

For those of you following this thread welcome back, for those of you that stumbled in some other way, HI!

The Idea

A DJ mix competition with a twist; instead of saying we want a 30 min house mix… GO!! Leading to everyone digging for their best, ‘stand out’ tunes and throwing down in an attempt to outshine each other. We’re setting the tracks for you, so you have to outshine the rest with your own creativity and personal interpretation.

The Challange

Take the 10 tracks listed below, spanning Breaks, Dub Step, Drum & Bass, House and Techno (2 of each) and mix them together. Quite simple really… (if you disregard the ‘odd’ mix of styles, and the tempo changes that crop up)

‘Rules’

  • Use all 10 tracks, and no others - in any order
  • You are allowed to use one additional sample of your choosing, one shot or loop - max 16 beats. The sample can be used as much or as little as you want.
  • Have FUN
  • Winner will be decided by public poll

Admittedly these are Juno Download links, but they can all be found on Beatport as well…

Start downloading now, and have you mixes submitted by 13th Feb (just over a couple of weeks away). Post the mixes to my Soundcloud Drop Box and i’ll sort out poll threads on the 13th.
With the mix, post the order you used the tracks, the sample you used and what software/gear combo you did it with.

And now i’m off to buy the tracks…

toying with poll threads and let the public decided, though am thinking that photojojo, weltraumpapst, kooper1980, Citizen_Insane and myself should take judging duty as we named the tracks…

Still on the fence about this. Not sure I have the time, but really want to.

neither right or wrong, haven’t decided on judging bit properly yet, it’s a detail that isn’t needed straight away for people to get going, lol

will update when it’s been figured out.

I think either a poll or loading them all to a single mixcloud and letting people favorite their favorite.

I also say if you accidently download the wrong remix you’re disqualified. So pay attention.

Id love to judge though. As previously mentioned i dont really have time to compete but as an impartial observer id judge.

Poll is fairest though i guess.

I like that idea a LOT… it would give it an added edge not knowing who it was you were listening to.

Thanks man. Yeah im currently working on a really big project that has deadlines so i just cant commit to anything in the knowledge that i could do it justice.

Next time though.

It’s easy though Brad, everyone submits it to one or two people (a panel), the panel then takes the contestants names and puts in in a excel document then proceeds to give each contestant a number.

After doing that, upload it all onto a judge, or the panels (newly created) SoundCloud and then when posting up the tracks just put the respective numbers in place of the artists name.
