I was wondering, do you think NI are likely to release a fully touchscreen-friendly version of Traktor in the future?
With touchscreen interfaces becoming more and more popular, doesn’t it make sense to make a touchscreen-friendly version of Traktor? Unfortunately, NI make much of their money from selling hardware, so it is possible this may never happen.
While I like the feel of hardware knobs and faders, I find analogue knobs ridiculous, because they never match the linked parameters in the software; encoders with LED rings (as found on Behringer’s BCR2000) or touchscreen controllers neatly fix this problem. I actually have a couple of BCRs and I’ve used them in a few gigs but they are bulky and require separate power, which makes them more than ideal for a portable set-up. If Liine released a Windows version of their Lemur app, so that Traktor and Lemur can both run on the same device (no need for laptop+iPad), that would be killer. I could just turn up at the venue with a Windows Surface device, a couple of Launchpads and a small audio interface and start rocking.
For use as a controller or as a stand alone device?
Presuming the later, as the SSD would hold the music. Trouble is I don’t see any apps powerful enough to warrant the switch away from a PC (Traktor DJ for iPad is nice, but it is a toy)…
If it is the prior, you can build one with an android TV and a touch monitor, an external SSD and sound card… I guess you would run the sound cards and SSD into the laptop?
Personally ive been dreading touch screen tech becoming commonplace, theres too much stuff out there that disconects you enough from the music already, give me physical control any day of the week
