WTF Beatport!!

WTF Beatport!!

anyone else seen this … just went on beatport checking out my latest tunes from what ever artists and labels i like

£2.49 a song mp3!!! fucking outrageous:rage:

Yeah their pricing is a bit absurd for mp3 files. That should be the price of lossless imho

Still cheaper than the vinyl days.

Yeah but with vinyl you get the actual record in physical form. This is for a file. It’s absurd..

And with vinyl you just spent $12 for four songs and three of them suck. And after playing it out enough it gets worn out or some drunk chick scratches it and you’ve got to buy it again.

I was about to say… At least you get the full quality of the vinyl.

true
they had their ups and downs

Wait three months and the same tracks are $1.49 or something similar. Oh the beauty of EDM where releases age within days.

Alot of my vinyl has survived longer than any Hard drive i’ve had, and outlived even most hard-drive protocols (USB1.1/IDE/SATA/SCSI) - I’ve only once had a vinyl destroyed beyond playable and that was after a party where the dj spinning after me dropped a hit rock on my last one (sure plenty have deep scratches and scrapes and pretty much worn down to the nub, but still playable).

Also with vinyl there was alot more people in the supply chain needed to get paid as well. The producer, distributor, deliver people, printer, cutting house, record shop.

$2.50 does seem crazy high for an MP3 with that taken into consideration.

Might help a little. Just used the last one this weekend. Hopefully it works for you

For £2 a pop, you might aswell buy the vinyl. A record is only £5, and that has 2 tunes on it!

Find a store that’ll give you the free mp3 download aswell, surus is a good one for dnb & dubstep heads.

at the end of the day; FUCK BEATPORT! VOTE WITH YOUR WALLETS!

Another reason for me not to go back to Beatport, that is very expensive indeed!

Yep, very true, I’m now spending a lot less that I used to on tunage.

Definitely agree, it does seem that the turnaround of music is even quicker now, which is a shame - I try to make a point of not getting sucked in to buying more tunes and replacing in my current ‘virtual crate’ but it’s difficult! :slight_smile: The quantity has also increased I’ve found.

For an industry that was crying out over how MP3’s screwing them over - prices like that are a kick in the teeth to the people who bother their asses to pay for music if you ask me.

Juno for me will stay my #1 sit thank you very much and itunes if its available At least they make the effort to categorize things correctly and don’t make up stupid genres names like Romantic techno.

If they want to do things properly they should have a “4/4 Pop” category for SHM and David Guetta type tracks, not fucking progressive house, Honestly theres is ZERO tracks in their “progressive top 10” that I would touch with the progressive moniker - Trance would be the closest genre I could put them in.

Seriously WTF is “progressive” about a intro, drumroll break build drumroll boom boom break again drumroll boom boom outro? That entire category should IMHO should be the likes of Bedrock, Bonzai, Baroque record labels all of which are progressive tracks in nature and tell a “story” (or maybe they should create a genre called bedtime house for this? just so I know where the fuck to find it).

beatport just pisses me off these days and only use it when i’m either extreamly bored or cant find the track anywhere else.

[/rant]

But the % of quality tracks has gone to shambles.

Looking at juno the price for new lossless releases is 2.75, beatport new released lossless is 3.50
already saving a bit of money there.
Lets say you buy 100 tracks
Beatport = $350
Juno = $275
Not to mention that you also save money for buying a whole release on juno it seems

Go Go Juno, I think I found my true love haha
Also juno can convert their wavs to Flac and send it. +1 on that side as well.
They will also give you the cover art files in 700x700

Um, not strictly BP related as such, and this won’t apply so much to those who pay WAV handling fees, but I was reading somewhere that iTunes 256kbph AAC files are actually superior in quality to Beatport’s 320s due to AAC using better encoding algorithms and masters than mp3, and those tend to be less than £1.
Would anyone with a bit more insider knowledge care to validate and or exspuriate this claim?

At the point of MP3 320kbps vs 256kbps AAC they make little to no difference, AAC is great for devices that can read the files due to file size being so small

Stompy = $199

They don’t get enough love imo.

imo it looks like some site I don’t think sells legit, but I could be wrong but also it looks like there’s no trance section

Why would you say that it isn’t legit?

Yup. +1 for iTunes. Saying that Beatport is still cheaper than Vinyl is a weak argument, and an unfair comparison. That’s like saying we shouldn’t complain about the price of washing machines because it’s still much better than washing by hand. The comparison should at least be made to the same medium…And with iTunes being the largest distributor of online media, I’d say It’s a good starting point for comparison.

WTF?!

EDM Genre classification has reached an all-time low.
