Any of you use 1Ds in combination with the 4D? I have been experimenting with this setup and I was wondering if anyone else has done it and how they utilized the tons of mapping opportunities. It basically offers 4 individual 1D type control surfaces so I have one dedicated to each deck with a different FX unit on each one, other than that they are nearly identical. there is one shift command instead of cramming in like 4 modifiers to control everything. It is working pretty well so far, I just want to see if anyone else has this setup and any ideas/suggestions.
Other than that the 4D is a beast of a mixer, as a pure mixer I think it is a nice upgrade form the 92.
My 3d should be getting here sooooon. I can’t wait.
I only have two decks, though (Traktor DUO) holding off on upgrading untill I can get a new laptop with a bigger screen so I can actually /see/ all four decks at a time. Netbooks are awesome, and mine runs Traktor suprisingly well, but goddamn does the tiny screen make things a bit cluttered.
My 4D has been on it’s way to me for over a month but they have promised me it shall be with me on the 17th!!! when it does i shall no doubt be asking questions along with pulling out my very short hair lol
on the plus side i got the missus to buy me the NI X1 for xmas
Yikes, ditch the 3D if you can, it has all sorts of problems. You can only run 3 decks in traktor pro with its soundcard (the 4th channel on the mixer is for an external line/phono source). The 4D is what the 3D should have been and they fixed everything and improved it significantly.
The soundcard is pretty bad, USB 1.0, 3 channels, known issues with it… If you need to use an Audio 8 it kind of defeats one of the main purposes for having a 3D/4D.
I was using it for Ableton with the APC 40, it is gone now seeing as I was only using one extra channel and I have ditched Ableton for DJing and save it for production.
Thanks, where do you play at? I’m new to the city and am starting fresh making connections and getting into the scene here. If you have any tips I would love to hear them and please feel free to send me a PM with any advice about DJing in NY.
heh, I spin small underground places, dark dance music. My advice? Stick in your heels and be ready to fight
Yeah hit me up, man. I ain’t a big name or anything, but I got a little group of kids who like what I do. I’m sure there’s a ton we could show each other.
Indeed, i know NY is a battleground for DJs so I am looking for any edge I can get (also why I am now planning to dive into production since I hear you either need a big following or be a producer to get in anywhere). Anyway, I would love to check out what you do and your underground scene. Seriously, I’m away this weekend but after that let me know when you’re playing and I’ll be there.
so ure saying connecting the the xone 4d’s usb 2.0 will route each deck to a,b,c,d to the xone 4d’s mixer? dont mind me asking as im gonna get a xone 92 as ive already owned a older version of xone 1d. ive read its a better mixer. but i just want to know whether the audio in traktor can be routed to the different deck in the mixer with just the usb 2.0 for the xone4D if its possible then i wouldnt contemplate on getting an audio 8 dj and get a xone 4D instead? but then again owning a xone 92 is more versatile.
That’s exactly what the 4D does. I sold my Audio 8. So few wires now, it is liberating and is even scratch certified so I can plug in tunrtables for timecode control.
You can’t daisy chain USB, you can daisy chain MIDI but then you have to power the 1Ds over USB with a hub (you can’t run the 1ds through a hub for data, it doesn’t work, they just need power). That is a lot of cables so I just decided to do straight USB since I have just enough ports for them and the 1D (I upgraded my laptop hard drive to eliminate a usb external).
