So I’m contemplating upgrading my monitors. I currently have a pair of Genelec 8020a’s, which I really like, but they do lack a tad in the bassy department, and the extreme trueness of the sound often leads me to do nothing but EQing, so what I’m looking for is something to just produce on, then use the 8020s for mixing and mastering, and something with an 8" cone seems to be what I’m after…
I found a website that has both monitors at the same price, so I’m having trouble choosing haha…
Does anybody have any experience with either monitors? Or pref. both
Go for the Mackie MRs!!! Just make sure you have them setup right ( not backed up against the wall). These speakers are insane.
I’m pretty sure I read somewhere Bassnectar uses these in his studio.
If you are gonna use the 8020’s for mixdown then I would say get the Mackies - I have a pair for dj’ing and they sound great - the Yammys will be too flat, a bit like your Gennies
I’m confused? You do know that when your producing you WANT to get the flattest sound possible right? Any monitors giving 40-60hz boost’s arnt going to be true to your ears. Not that it matters dramatically.
None the less if your wanting new monitors for what ever reason I would suggest the Mackies. The Yamaha’s are VERY true to sound and are extremely flat in that way. Mackies offer more in the bass department which is what your looking for?
Another vote for the Mackies if you want something different from the Genelecs. Or just get bigger Genelecs and stick with one pair of monitors for everything
