I’ve found Fxpansions set of synths to be pretty cool. Strobe is awesome. 
The Fusor is really cool because you can combine all 3 synths. Its like a mini daw basically.

One thing I’d keep in mind is not to go too crazy with all sorts of VST’s. If you ever plan to collaborate with someone, having matching VST setups is pretty key. If you make a kickin bassline or whatever with a synth someone you are working with doesn’t have, it’s rough.

I agree with you to a certain degree, but it’s also nice to be able to edit certain MIDI patterns back and forth, rather than dealing with the audio loops.
It’s not impossible, it’s just a lot easier in my experience with it. Call me lazy, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to edit the patterns on the fly rather than cutting it up again.
