I’ve recently grown to love KOAN Sound A LOT! Their productions are amazing, and I love the groove of shuffled dubstep in 100 bpm. I played a gig last night were I really felt like playing some 100 bpm, but have’nt found that much more similiar (and as good) music in that tempo except for KOAN and Noisia - Contact and Culprate - Ono, so it actually turned out to be more of a KOAN-medley. Do you guys know of any more artists/songs in this “genre”? Would really appreciate it!
in the last couple of weeks i got into the 100bpm thing.. i really like it, but in my experience the crowd seems to be confused. apparently they are not really digging the tempo.. played some tunes at two parties in the last two weeks and the floor got noticeably empty… after switching to 140bpm dubstep or drumstep they went crazy again..
bassnectar - select frequency
flux pavillion - night goes on
knight riderz - no offense
mj cole - sincere (nero remix) ← this ones HUGE
sub focus - splash (rusko remix)
tony anthem, axl ender - life
die antwoord - fish paste (ill.gates remix)
marco del horno - this town is ours (last japan vs skanky remix)
Yeah I guess some of it is a bit too difficult. But when I played some of the KOAN-songs people went crazy! Got a nice underground hiphop vibe going on in the club and everyone seemed to love it.
Thank’s for all the tips! I’ll definitely check it out!
Me personally feel that 100 bpm dubstep is a lot more hiphop and got an entire different groove in comparison to moombah which is more latin. But I guess a lot of the bass-sounds are pretty similiar! But hey, I might just be genre-whore…
Dunno if you’re just takin’ the piss, and Burial is freaking awesome… but I have archangel gridded around 135 bpm and it works for me
Oh also, Noisia & Foreign Beggars - Contact ← NOT A DUBSTEP TRACK. IT’S HIP HOP / RAP / Grime (ok not so sure if it counts as grime given the speed thing).
Thinking about dubstep ‘tropes’ and this BPM and I reckon you can retrofit older tunes with emporer’s new clothes… for example, you could consider ‘Angel’ by Massive Attack a ‘proto’ 108bpm dubstep tune… it has the classic ‘snare on the 3’ and 16th note bassline… released in 1998!
Don’t sound much like Dubstep to me. It’s not half time for a start. Sounds good though, someone else made a thread about this kinda stuff a while ago and cited this as a standout tune:
I’ve seen youtube comments referring to dnb tunes as ‘fast dubstep’.
I think its just yoots who only started listening to music in the last 2-3 years, so to them everything is dubstep, or a variant thereof.
The track in the original post is Glitch Hop. As people have mentioned check out opiou erphun, subvert and tipper etc for some of the good stuff. Its just bouncy party music that sounds ALOT like the nuskool breaks released around that 2000-2003 period.
The sound is good to make things interesting, but to be honest, a 1.5hr set of it kinda gets old pretty quick.
