How about going for a sleek & subtle audio-based animation? Think iTunes/WMP/… audio visualizer, but something way less complex.
It’s really easy if you have a little Adobe After Effects knowledge. If not, I suppose there may be some free & easy apps available to do it for you.
audio quality on youtube is generally terrible. it’s somewhat better in the HD formats (720p and up). however, afaik, even with HD you don’t get more than 128kbps. since i know youtube sounds so sh**ty, i wouldn’t stream an 80min DJ set off it. after all, soundcloud’s so much better and the supply there is plentyful.
i know my post is not answering exactly what you’re asking so take this fwiw. just thought i post it in case you’re unaware of the poor audio quality on youtube.
I bought yesterday a premium Soundcloud-account and uploaded the mix there.
I want to try how such long mixes work on YouTube. It will be probably taken off very quickly due to some record company whining.
