Ableton live 9 = Wishful thinking ?

Ableton live 9 = Wishful thinking ?

So as you may or may not have read I’m eager to get into the production game. I did some DAW research and Live seems most appealing to me, but the 3 year old software seems to miss some features that a lot of people really want.
So I figured I’ll wait a bit longer and see what version 9 has in stock but it looks like Ableton Live 9 won’t be a reality any time soon !

On the ableton forums loads of people are saying they are abandoning the sinking ship (that may a bit of an exaturation) and going to studio one and bitwig (in the future)

Thoughts ?

Studio One and Bitwig promises, but i wouldn’t jump until their programs have been tested and found reliable enough. Ableton might be “old” but it’s a mature program.

What features are YOU missing in the current version of Ableton?

Live isn’t perfect but it’s the best current alternative and like padi said it is mature.

I would love to think ableton is secretly working on live 9 and will blow us all away but I think it is wishful thinking and they are in over their heads. I mean it’s been over 3 years and in that time developers broke away and created Bitwig from scratch which might as well be live 9. I hope bitwig delivers but until then I’m sticking with ableton since who knows in how long that will be ready and I’m still a beginner with production and there are a lot of resources and tutorials for live.

Plus live still has all the great device support like all the ipad apps like Touchable and Lemur/Mu plus a library of max4live devices that pick up where some of live is lacking.

I am just excited for a proper arrangement and multi monitor support with bitwig but I’m sure once it comes out I will realize how much I miss certain live devices.

I am happy with my version 8 for the moment.

I will check out Bitwig as it is similar to ableton and they seem to be keeping most of the bits of ableton that I like.

i am so missing multi monitor support in live and i dont get what could be so hard about to just implement it with the next patch.

Well I think it would take a lot of work actually

Im still on version 7 and pretty happy, the features that arent in it ive made my own work arounds for, you have to remember as much as all the fancy extras seem cool at the end of the day you are making music. as long as you can get down your ideas without the software getting in the way then youre golden.

ps on the multi monitor support, i doubt thats on high their ToDo list because live is designed for “live” use on a laptop and thats why they have their single window “TAB’d” views. Kinda goes against their philosophy in a way.

yeah but a feature can be enabled or disabled. Really, I work better in studio with multiple screens, Once you try it, you never go back.

All my computer here have at least 2 screens. Electronic & Software development workbench have 4.

People use computers with multiple screens on stage and multiple computers so why not. And what about when people work in live off stage most of the time… It’s not on their radar because they are in over their heads and can hardly fix live 8.

while talking about multiple screen… anyone have or found some “fold-able” screen… basically a “laptop alike” thing?

Just stretch the window across both screens, its not that hard

how hard is it to implement a new window instead of a tab? most every program has such features. i dont know shit about coding, but if you can make a top notch DAW you should be able to make a window pop up??
