About the Midi Fighter Beta Testing category

Thanks for taking part in this beta. We are very excited with the changes we made and looking forward to your feedback.

You can download the Midi Fighter Utility 2.91e via the links below.

Twister’s beta firmware that accompanies this test is embeded in the utility and can be accesed via Tool>Midi Fighter> Custom Firmware

2 firmware files are available. One with the standard 4 banks + sequencer and another with 8 banks. If you wish or need to revert to the current public firmware click on the Orange UPDATE button in the MFU and it will load it.

To submit feedback please click on the “New post” button on this category and a quick form will show up.

Utility 2.91e

  • App is now signed and notarized with a Apple Developer account so the initial nag popups on macOS are gone
  • Upgraded to Qt 6.8.3 framework (macOS + Windows)
  • Fix build, runtime, and compatibility issues
  • Remove single-device assumptions internally
  • Introduce per-device session model (behind the scenes)
  • MFU detects a device in bootloader mode and offers recovery options
  • Bank navigation synced between unit and utility
  • MFU now reads unit settings consistently on load
  • Responsive Light/Dark mode on macOS
  • Settings no longer need multiple clicks to be edited
  • Vectorized icons for better rendering on high DPI displays
  • Simplified UI with cleaner layout
  • Setting groups auto expand
  • Edits are saved to the unit when using the send command even if the edit box was not closed
  • Fixed graphic glitches introduced in 2.90
  • New WinUSB DFU drivers (Win)
  • MFU shows whether an encoder has detent enabled and its color
  • MFU no longer moves an encoder with detent to 0 on load
  • Tooltips for Twister. Hover over a setting to get a quick explanation of what it does. This can be toggled off from the Help menu
  • Keyboard shortcuts for common actions
  • MFU now hides new settings which are not available on older firmwares to prevent data corruption.
  • Reorganized and simplified the naming of some options to make the MFU more frienly to new users
  • Log now shows MIDI commands sent by the unit in a more legible form rather than raw. It now also reports firmware date and has a Clear button to ease troubleshooting.

Twister

  • More useable color palette (Current + MF64 palette switchable via the MFU)
  • Configurable Shift encoder channel (per encoder)
  • Configurable Animation channels (global)
  • Bank change animations
  • More than 4 banks
    • We can do 8 banks with no sequencer or 4/6 with sequencer. Can’t do it as a regular MFU option, one has to be an alt firmware due to memory restrictions.
  • New bank select side button action (hold the side button and push on an encoder to jump to a bank like Sprectra has). Serves as a quick way to check what bank you are on too which is a must when using more than 4 or
  • Add Spread as an indicator type
  • Shift Page A/B available as both toggle and momentary
  • Removed Bank Cycle side button action (redundant with new Bank Select action)
  • Display sleep timer and animations (RGB wave and turn lights off)
  • Twister reports a unique serial number
  • Multiple encoders can now be selected in the MFU by dragging your mouse across the encoders or holding the shift key and clicking. (before the MULTIPLE button had to be activated)

As a quick note. We changed how devices are detected by the MFU so this should mean other audio interfaces or controllers should not prevent the utility from detecting your controller properly.

This beta build also includes experimental support for working with multiple units connected simultaneously. This can be accessed by clicking on the shuffle icon next to a device name while more than 1 unit is connected. Be aware that this part still needs a pending UI rebuild so there might be some erratic behaviour when working with more than one unit at once.

What are we testing mainly?

  • Stability of the MFU and new firmware
  • Feedback of the new color palette and other new features
  • Banks! Do you prefer 8 banks and drop the sequencer or 4 and keep it?

6 banks + sequencer might be viable btw

I really enjoy the sequencer, so this would be great!

Hi! Any plan to make the editor work with MacOS 10.15? Says you need MacOS 12 or up?

This does not work for me Windows 11 with 2 units attached. MFU 2.91e. One of the 2 units has older firmware.

Does the shuffle icon on the right not show up for you? It’s not firmware specific.

It will be dark on W11 if you are on a light theme (same issue as the tab text on this build)

No shuffle symbol on mine

2.91f is available here

Twister’s beta firmware that accompanies this version has moved to Tools>Alternate Firmware

Changes

  • FIX Better detection when switching between 4-8 banks firmware
  • FIX Shift Encoder (Toggle) was accessible via MULTIPLE edit
  • FIX Incomplete Twister tooltips
  • UPDATE Twister bank change animations can be disabled in the MFU
  • UPDATE Windows is now Light/Dark theme responsive (addresses tabs readability issues on light themes)
  • UPDATE Simplified Tools menu, The “Midifighter” submenu was redundant
  • EXPERIMENTAL Undo & Redo functionality, accessible via normal keyboard shortcuts or the Edit menu

Forgot to add: the MFU should do a better job at resizing for content so less scrolling is needed to see the right side buttons
