Apple will (supposedly) announce their Tablet this coming Wednesday. If it turns out to be reasonably priced (lol) and has multitouch (very likely) then it’s got me thinking it’d make a very nice scene launcer, x-y pad, etc… anyone else excited/interested to see what Apple’s been working on?
some of the rumors are that it will be a big itouch, which i think would limit its use as a “perfomance” controller but just like the itouch there will be fun and interesting programs made for it.
There is been romours, hoople and more romours on this so called tablet.
Don’t think I am going to even consider it until they come out with one.
For now I’m all about the MacBook Wheel
well for one i do not expect the tablet to really network on a wired connection. so latency may be an issue, though i have been positively surprised about the low latency of iphone midi apps.
the big issue is that unfortunately no DJ software currently allows for multi monitoring let alone touch (ableton comes the closest here). however obviously i expect that there will be midi/osc software just like for the iphone.
here again the close mindedness of NI and friends pisses me off mightily. for example it would be awesome to move the entire playlist browsing to another screen, say this tablet. there are solutions to multi monitor over a network connection. but since traktor has no API, there is no way to even write your own app to browse the traktor collection on a second screen (and they fail to provide a multi monitor solution themselves).
but alas give Mixxx two more releases and they are up there with traktor but fully open. the next release will give it multi midi support as well as cue points and loops. the release after that will add beat detection if every beat (maybe even with warping) and thus better sync support and things are looking good for a revamped GUI engine hopefully with multi monitor support.
Rumor has it that apple’s tablet will be in the $800 range. Which is an ok price. Basically the rumors say it’s functionality will be a bit limited. I am sure there will be many advances as this is only the begining and I feel apple is always cutting edge with stuff. They say that the touch surface will be much like the surface of the iPhone.
the phrase “iPhone on steriods” has been used a couple of times, whether this is due to its size or performance - i’m unsure.
The rumours are that it’ll be powered by a ARM CPU, so much more powerful than an iphone, but no were near mac book spec. There’s also whispers it’ll run on the iPhone kernal, which has caused a delay in an updated iPhone OS, as it’s filled with tablet-related codes that would out details before its launch.
It will proabably pack a 10" lcd screen, as there has been a sudden loss of supply to the market of these (due to someone buying them all up - this usual happens to memory, a couple of months before Apple releases a new ipod, anybody else notice how its shot up in price recently?).
From what all the rumours say, it will be a big ipod touch, with 64GB & 128GB models. It will take over the digital book market, killing brands like the amazon kindle. Expect to be able to subscribe to your local paper & favourtie magazines, and read them on it, with everything downloaded through itunes.
Anyway, the Apple event is penned in for January 27th, so I expect we will all find out then - and probably be dissapointed
