Beat gridding terror

Beat gridding terror

Hi,

After watching Ian Golden’s youtube clip on beat gridding I’m still having issues beat gridding my track perfectly. I get the first phrases to gip up correctly but further into the track they go off beat.. and when I nudge the grid left or right.. it simply move the entire grid which doesn’t work either.

Does anyone know of other beat gridding tutorials that may help?
Maybe you know what i’m doing incorrectly..

Assistance greatly appreciated!
:sunglasses:

Sounds like its not a solid bpm or is drifting … set another grid further down to deal with this

no, dont nudge it

there are 2 buttons under the nudge buttons. this will change the bpm 1 thousandth of a bpm

This. You need to change BPM not move the grid. Right click to move faster.

I learn something new everyday

you’re welcome

you learnt that from one of Eans vids didn’t ya?

you nose it.

lol, where i found it to…

I wish I’d known it earlier lol, waiting for BPMs to change in increments of 1/1000th is mind meltingly boring.

oh check me out, 999 posts. I should probably do some work at some point, I clearly haven’t done any these past few months!

edit: I refuse to start a “woop, 1000th post!” thread. I hope you’re all glad of that.

Do one at 1010…

I did a couple youtube videos on beatgridding that might be helpful. Someone should compile a list of all the tutorial vids out there for traktor…

I recommend those videos. very helpful when I was learning.

i’ll work on a few example screenies for you later mate.

This song has to be a nightmare to beatgrid

Jester’s Basic Beatgridding 101

Load Your Track

Skip through to the first obvious beat

If the grid lines are pretty close to the peak, leave snap on, if it is way off, turn it off for the moment. Hit Cue and store as a grid point.

Now in this example you can see the grid is pretty close to being right but still needs to be dragged back a bit to be bang on.

Using the Grid Move button, drag the grid back a few steps until it is just behind the big peak of the beat.

Make sure that snap is back on and hit cue a few times so you are sure that the grid lines are on the “pip” of the beat. This part will take a bit of practise but once you get your 'ear in" its easy.

Skip through to about halfway through the track and make sure the grid is still lined up (if it’s not, you may have to adjust the BPM using the BPM Inc/Dec buttons) .. This one looks perfect, maybe just drag the grid back a couple more clicks i think.

Go back to your grid marker, and add a load marker at the same point.

Play through the whole track for one final check, and you are away.

nice post jester, except you wouldn’t necessarily always want to have a load marker on the first heavy beat… depending on your style I guess.

totally optional of course.those are the only two cue points my tracks have usually, unless i’m using them in a recording

ok not trying to Hijack but is it just me or is this normal. I seem to get a better grid by trashing the grid and letting traktor re-adjust. weird but working pretty well then again I mainly use R&B and HIP HOP might just be a quirk but I am wondering

Have you tried that tap button? Its in the Adv. controls. You just tap it to the beat and it sets the grid for you.
