Bedroom DJ’s filming themselves and putting on youtube

Is it just me or are there far too many videos of DJ’s filming themselves in their bedroom standing facing a wall on their decks doing some boring ass mix, with nothing in the video but a pair of turntables and their hands doing well, not really very much. And to top it off they are always using either traktor or serato so you don’t even see any records being changed. It’s always minimal or tech house too so the mixes seem to drag on and on. Nothing exciting ever happens and for some crazy unexplainable reason a vast majority of them have 5 stars, which is the reason I clicked on it in the first place. So I sit and watch and after about 5 minutes I realise nothing else is going to happen, and there’s still another 5 minutes to go! That’s when I stop watching and I come to the realisation that I just wasted 5 minutes of my life and feel the need to vent my frustration in a DJ forum.
I don’t get it, the videos are boring as hell and youtube sound quality is pants. With the amount of time and effort it took to set up a video camera why not just record the audio and post that on the net for people to listen to and possibly download in a much better quality?
And who the hell gives them 5 stars anyway?

Damn it!

It makes them feel big and clever :stuck_out_tongue:

Pants!

Big pants!

add it to the long list of stupid dog tricks that people put on youtube

yeah a load of old sh!te

pretty good bedroom video. i mean…it is rafik though…

if you dont like them, dont watch them

hot pants ftw!

i like bedroom dj vids.

Saw one where a guys’ fader paddle flew off on a quick cut. I lol’d but cursed myself cause the same happened to me. Lighten up man did you expect NOT to waste time on YT?

[/quote] happened once to me as well. epic fail. nice to see some more atlanta scratch djs on here! +1

i think dodge is just gauging our reaction to determine whether or not to upload his bedroom video.

do it man… do it. the whole world is waiting to see you mix somebody else’s song into somebody else’s song of the same genre.

:open_mouth: I was planning to put a video on youtube when I get my new setup and new camera…

But, I hear you. There is lot of crap in Youtube. I would like to see more videos from the people who do something special, like hack their controllers, or combine Torq with Ableton.

don’t watch them, I barely watch youtube, if I do it’s for information pertaining to production or something to do with my Xone 4D or if it’s a classic scratch set then i love to watch those, maybe some old school breakdance footage!

i like this one :sunglasses::eek::smiley:

exactly the reasons i put a couple up, got one that mixes 9 tracks in 9 mins.

and it appears youtube have allowed the audio again!!

@earlpanda - nice vid, can do some good stuff with just a keyboard

Bad videos are my inspiration. They make me feel good about what I can do and what I listen to. It’s like people watching bad tv to make themselves feel better :stuck_out_tongue:

That being said, good videos make me want to try harder.

But overall yeah, there is a lot of stuff out there that is a waste of time to watch, but you know people are getting into the music so at least there is that?

I used to enter the DJ Tutor Ten Min Mix competitions and ofc there were a few mixes that were like that, but I think it’s good for people to put up what they can do so they can see how they progress

DJ Ravine is a good example, from this to this and in that time he went from bedroom DJ to playing at clubs and festivals and has put together compilation CDs with other Aussie DJ’s (which is a pretty awesome achievement!)

I look back at some of my early mix videos and think “jeez that was pretty bad”…

… then again I look at my last few videos and think “jeez I’m still pretty bad”

I’d rather watch a YouTube mix than a soundcloud mix (cos YouTube works on my iPhone :stuck_out_tongue:)

the good thing about youtube is the time limit. You know it’s going to be crap immediately if you see there are 3 tracks in 10 mins. But if someone can get 10 tracks in, then it coule be exciting.

I do quite a bit of youtubing myself, but mainly just to show other people how i do stuff, and what i think of things - because that’s what i felt was lacking when i was starting out..

there are some fucking tragic characters on youtube however.. not least the famous Mobile DJs. give me a break!
