I have played all kind of breaks for 10 years. Bur there has never been a huge demand for them.
Thankfully i was able to transition from being more of a commercial dj at your typical fancy club…to a full on underground dj within the past year. Got signed to an underground label here in Atlanta.
Well, our label throws a big rave once a month at this huge warehouse they rent. At underground events I have always played house and tech-house. But last night i played 2 hours of breaks and the crowd went mental!
Every track i pulled they just went crazy for! Played a few ultra rare Goldie breaks vinyls.
I’ve been playing breaks out since I started Breaks aren’t going anywhere - people just don’t make the connection half the time that what they are listening to ARE breaks. Breaks for life man I sometimes play other things too, Drum and Bass, Hardstyle, House (in various forms) but my mainstay has always been breaks. There’s definitely a demand for it around - it just takes solid promoters to book it!
Indeed, half of my audience thinks it’s house, the other half think it’s drum & bass xD
Luckily the guy who books me lets me play whatever the heck I want, as long as people enjoy themselves.
Breaks is my second genre, it was really popular over here for a while but died back a bit. Wish it would make a comeback! It’s great fun to mix. This is one of my favourite tracks of all time:
Probably the first genre I was really passionate about when I started DJing. Got a huge collection of breaks vinyl from 01-04… Probably the peak of my vinyl buying days.
Marine Parade was on fire for a few years, everything that label released was awesome.
You guys have posted my two fave Evil Nine tunes so I’ll throw this other classic up.
I haven’t posted in ages but this thread is well worth a comeback. My roots lie in DnB and Breaks but its just not the same anymore hence why i’m more of a house guy now where I can find the same kind of vibe.
Yeah, I’m playin’ a lot of Ghetto Funk myself these days… the folks I’m playing in front of seem to dig it, though I am not playing clubs, so I can’t say much about that.
