Hey what’s going on guys? So i’ve finally gotten enough saved and want to invest in a kontrol s4. Here is my question though, I could order it today (3/28/11) and have it ship in this week/early next week. Or should i hold off until after the first when tp2 is released? Will the release of tp2 change anything involving the s4 such as price, updates, etc. what are your alls thoughts because i’m impatiently waiting now but if it would be wise to hold off then i’ll choose to do so. Thanks in advance.
Yea in case you didn’t know they’re doing away with the Kontrol s4 software and upgrading everyone that has it to Traktor Pro 2. You could wait and get one of the newer S4 units that will now ship with Traktor 2, but it makes no sense to wait since Native Instruments will be sending out vouchers for free download of Traktor 2 to those users that have the S4 already. As for price nothing is changing.
ok cool so it seems like i should go on then and order it today. I was really only worried that it would be in the middle of shipping and then tp2 came out and i would have to go through some hassle trying to get a voucher for the download.
I would wait to ensure i get the package bundled with TP2. I’m totally speaking out of my ass right now but its not uncommon for companies to do hardware refreshes later in production. I’m not saying this is at all the case with the S4 but you never know so with the matter of waiting 4 days…i would wait.
alright that wasn’t a tough decision at all haha. I got it ordered today and it will be in Thursday, a day before the release so I should be set to go.

if the S4 will ever be for sale without the software ?
as before the S4 package was unique as it had unique software as a selling point.
now with all traktor pro users wether there new users or upgrading users they will have traktor 2 software already. the reason im asking this question is, I for one would love to be able to buy another S4 at a bit cheaper if i ever had an accident like beer spillage or a drop etc. what does anyone else think ?
That’s an interesting question. My gut says no, it will always come as the complete package. If you already own T2 then you’re free to sell that license, but the software that comes with the S4 may very well be tied to the controller so they’ll have to stay together. That’s just a guess though.
I don’t think it will be tied to the controller. Obviously this is a guess, but I reckon once the S4 starts shipping with a full version of TP2 you’ll be able to sell that like any other, with the activation code etc. It would make sense, because there are sure to be some people who already own TP2 or TSP2 but want to upgrade their controller to an S4.
EDIT: Of course that’s only really relevant for TSP2, since if you already owned TP2 it wouldn’t make a difference which of the 2 licences you wanted to sell.
