Can’t setup my Kontrol S4 properly - Press Play but doesn’t play

Hey all,
I borrowed a Kontrol S4 off a mate right before he went overseas for a holiday, and it seems to be only kind of working.

My issue seems to be with the audio and it’s ‘Flow’ (for lack of a better word).

From what i understand the way it should work is as follows…

A) Traktor running on PC
B) Krontrol S4 plugged in via USB.
C) Audio out from S4 into speakers
D) Headphones plugged into S4

…now mine doesn’t work like that at all… PLEASE HELP

A & B i have working. Below are what i think my problems are but maybe you guys know better.

  1. In ‘Audio Setup’ under ‘Audio Device’ If i choose one of the two Traktor Options when i hit play it doesn’t actually play the song. (i did have this working a second ago and something made it stop again but sound still didn’t come out of master out but headphones worked)

  2. Can’t get headphones to work so i can preview tracks while mixing.

  3. Can’t get audio out (to go into speakers) on the S4 to work

I think thats it, it feels like if i can solve the first problem the rest would be solved too.

why do you have two traktor options under audio device?

which version of traktor are you on?

Version of Traktor seems to be “Traktor Pro S4 1.0.0 (R9174)” - from the about section in the help menu.

Not sure why i have two options… But these are the options that show up

  • Traktor Kontrol S4 (ASIO)
  • Realtek HD Audio output (DirectSound)
  • M3AD Wave (DirectSound)
  • Traktor Kontrol S4 Master Output (DirectSound)

The last one is the one i had the headphones working on for a second, but i don’t know how, although i seemed to mess it up when i tried to ‘Mixing Mode’ under ‘Output Routing’.

ok.. i cannot say much to the asio vs directsound thing, cause i’m on a mac..

but you definitely should update your traktor. with every S4 owner got a free upgrade to Tpro2..

So that would be upgrading to ‘Traktor Pro 2’ ok.

What is the best way to go about it, uninstall everything and start from scratch?

TRied that and no luck, i would love to use them i just wish i knew why it wasn’t working.

Still waiting for advice on a re-install and the best way to go about it, then i will try that, can’t put me any worse off than i am now.

doesnt matter if you uninstall TproS4 before installing Tpro2.. they can be installed both at the same time

Sweet, what about drivers and stuff (just cause i was thinking maybe that is part of the problem.

Will keep everyone posted with how it goes.

OK i have upgraded to ‘Traktor Pro 2’ can’t even really tell the difference apart from in the options.

No change still hit play, it registers but it won’t play. Thoughts anyone?

you press play on the s4, traktor play button lights up green, but the track isnt moving?
what sample rate are you on? 44.1?

i remember something about different sample rates of the soundcard you selected in traktor and the built-in.. again, i’m not on windows, so i cant tell you exactly what to do..

OK i solved the problem, it only took 2 days of non stop searching, hahaha. All i had to do was disable my inbuilt sound card. Hope this can help someone else and thanks to everyone who helped, i wouldn’t of given up with out your help.

Damn it, it stopped working again, don’t think i did anything but minimise a window (unrelated program).

IT only seems to work when i have the conrol panel (click settings under audio device) open… this seems wierd, i think it might be time for a new thread on this now that i have more info.

Im having the very same problem got traktor s4 for chrtistmas and still cant get it going :disappointed: It seems to be using the computer sound card instead of traktors sound card because the master is playing through the speakers when i set it to the laptop soundcard HD Audio device but when I choose TraktorS4 (asio) The green button just lights up and the track dont play its real frustrating havnt had a good go at my s4 its really getting on my nerves really feel like going back to the Numark Mixtrack Pro :stuck_out_tongue:
