cheap/light MIDI controller for travel?

So I’m going to be traveling a bit around Europe this summer - sweden, berlin and paris - and I’ll have an opportunity to play a set while I’m in Sweden. I normally travel with a VCI-100 and my Audio 8 and my laptop, but that’s quite a weight when it’s all added up. Any suggestions on a light all-in-one MIDI controller that I can bring along instead of the VCI? I’ll probably only use 2 decks and keep my FX use to a minimum just to keep things under control, jog wheels are not a must though I like having them, and there will probably be turntables set up at the gig already so I’m toying with the idea of just bringing my X1 if I can get the MIDI part of it working right. But anyone have any suggestions on a VCI stand-in that is plastic and light that might work for me?

One or two X1’s.

Perfect travel companion(s)!!

Not sure you’ll find anything with jog wheels that’s lighter than a vci or reloop dj.

Two X1’s and an Audio2 will do you well, as would a Hercules Rmx.

Why not learn to use key shortcuts? For the sake of one gig, you’ll save yourself a few quid. If you buy and take controllers travelling, you’ll pretty soon get sick of carrying them everywhere.

X1, sound card and hopefully they’ll have a mixer.

Try this controller:
The iCon iDJ

Basically a controller with 2 touch sensitive jogs, the size of an Akai kontrolpad, for under €100,-

I’d prefer two Xone:1D’s personally.

I’ve played on one X1 without a mixer and a soundcard and it’s been a blast. It can be done if you keep things simple.

not exactly a lightweight and portable solution though.

Audio 2 and two X1’s, maybe timecodes as well ?

i second the x1 idea. thats how id do it.

X1 and x session pro and audio 2. Or just x session pro for super simple

+1 for X1 plus audio 2

If someone whipped that out in a nightclub id laugh them out of the booth:eek:

Dude thats Heavier than a VCI by ALOT 2.6kg - 4.6kg

@ OP, I’d Just think about a second X1+Audio2 unless you really want wheels & Soundcard at which stage i’d get a S/H Hercules Mk3 + X1.

My 2 cents

Until they make a mockery of you with their madskillz !

+1

anyone tried one of these? i guess i just fancy buying another small/cheap/light controller to play with and was looking at this iCon iDJ or the Gemini FirstMix… any thoughts from anyone?

the gemini seems to have slightly bigger jogs - both are touch sensitive but no clue how good/bad/indifferent but the icon seems to have much more that can be mapped in traktor etc.

bring you audio 8 dj, then get an x1 and use the timecode, with the x1 and you should be all good

get a hercules mp3 e2, you can map it with the dedicated shift buttons to have fadder fx and then back to eq’s, so you have control over everything, have your jog wheels, its light and comes with a dust cover and doesnt actually look to bad, I use one purely as a fx controller and people always ask what it is and how much do one of those cost… think it cost me like 99 euro, and since you already have the sound card its ideal and cheap
