Hi there!! Well, these last days I’ve been looking for a new DJ headphones around 200€ and I have two different choices:
-The AIAIAI TMA-1 seem a good option, right? I heard the sound quality is amazing and the design is also awesome, but the comfort… I’ve tried them two days ago and they didn’t feel nice around my neck or over my ears. At the local music store they cost 175€.
-The V-Moda Crossfade LP also seem a good choice because of the coolest design I’ve ever seen, the comfort, the customisation and also the sound quality is pretty cool, but I heard it’s too much “bass-focused”, whatever. From the web they cost aprox. 150€ without shipping.
Soo, what do you think it’s the best choice for me? AIAIAI or V-Moda? I can’t decide!! Thank you all once again btw!
Sound quality is def over-hyped and not the most important thing for me when considering headphones to DJ with, unless you are using them as a reference for production work as well. Honestly I think comfort, loudness/isolation, and durability are more important. Almost all club system speakers don’t have a flat response anyways, so making sure you have the flatest-curved headphones seems to me like a waste of time and/or money, seeing that it won’t be a true representation of what is actually going to come out of the speakers anyways.
There’s surely enough information about headphones out there and on here for the OP to be able to make a decision already, unless everyone particularly wants to fill another thread up by recommending the headphones that they themselves own again?
Anyway - HD25s.
I find it easier to mix on flat-response headphones regardless of what it is going to sound like on the club system. That’s a bit like saying that it doesn’t matter what speakers you’re going to produce with because people are only going to listen to them on ipod buds.
In the ~$200 range, it’s really a crapshoot between HD-25s, HDJ-2000s, and whatever wildcard someone’s going to throw into the discussion. HD-25s are the parroted champion, but I personally can’t stand the pathetic soundstage, comfort level, and awkward fit of on-ear cans. It’s like listening to tiny speakers with a vice on your head. But it realistically comes down to personal preference and how you feel the headphones fit.
Try them out, don’t let someone on the internet you don’t know tell you what you like when it comes to a preference you haven’t formed.
I own a pair of the v modas, I’ve tried out the tma’s and the v modas are more solid and offer much more for a dj than the tma’s. they’re more durable, better built and are the most comfortable headphones iv ever used.
ive been using an akg k181 for sometime now (but im a digital dj what do i know right?).. compared to other headphones.. its some of the clearer headphone i’ve used.. but again ive been comparing it to hdj 1500, and technics rp dh1200..
but lately if you don’t really care about flatness of sound.. lately i’ve been using sol republic tracks hd the deadmau5 edition.. tho doesnt sound as nice as the k181.. i really love those headphone coz it looks good and sounds good also
I just got out of my local music store and heard the Sennheiser HD25 CII and they sound realy good. Are lightweighted and the build quality is very good. From what I read in the reviews, the will stay with you for a lifetime
Unfortunalty I could not test other headphones. I would love to hear the HDJ-2000 and also the AIAIAI. They are orded.
But I think I’ll go with the Sennheiser HD25 -CII, not only because they are realy good for DJ’ing. But also are very good headphones to use in your studio. (big plus if you are also into producing)
I love the look, feel, durability and sound of my TMI-1 Studio. They are not, however, the most comfortable cans on the planet for long term wear. I added a piece of foam on my headband. They are also not for those with a huge melon. I wear a 7.25" hat, and these are at the last notch on the saddle.
Well I have one last question: One of the main things I look for (besides from sound quality) is that the headphones fit in my ears, I mean, I’ve tried Beats Solo a million times and I don’t like them because they don’t cover my whole ears and I feel uncomfortable, you know what I mean? I know it’s kinda weird but that’s my personal problem with headphones, whatever xD Do the HD-25 or the V-Moda’s fit? I know already that TMA don’t but they’re amazing anyway hahaha
The HD-25 is on ear and not over ear. I tought that I also would not like this because I’m used to over ear headphones. But the sound is to good and take the on ear for granted.
I’ve only seen the normal TMA in the stores… there’s almost no DJ gear in the stores here in spain and if you want something professional you have to buy it from internet… whatever, I’ll keep that in mind!
Soo… On-ear is like the Beats Solo, right? and over-ear is when they cover the whole ear, isn’t it? I need that I can use long time without getting my head tired of them, but whatever. I’ve heard today so many good things about the Sehnheiser HD-25!! I still have to think about it but thanks anyway!!
