Converting Large files to MP3

Converting Large files to MP3

I made a mash-up of 2 songs and recorded it, but the files size now is huge! :open_mouth: i used two songs around 10MBs each but the 5 minute mash-up came out to be over 50MBS… I want to convert it to a 320kbps file to upload to soundcloud. Are there any free ways of doing this?

Goldwave or Audacity with the LAME MP3 encoder.

I use db power amp converter.

itunes

The only converter software you’ll ever need is FREE:

Don’t use those gimmicky freeware programs if you care about quality and want decent encode options.

mmm maybe some of those cheesy free ones :

lamedrop is free and is the best encoder around - just drop your files on it and wait for the goodness.

As SirReal said. If you are on a MacBook, Itunes can do this for you no problem. Otherwise I’ve used Audacity as I had it installed for other purposes. You will need to install the LAME encoder however.

works the same on windows
no problem
free
and works just fine

Yes sir you are indeed correct. Not having Itunes on any on my win7 machines, I appear to have forgotten that it’s multi platform .

iTunes is fine. Check the conversion options you want in the import tab.

Can anyone give me a good reason NOT to use Converterlite???

It’s easy to use, reliable, and sounds perfectly good to my ears…

But I’m always open to suggestions…

Personally, i use audition because thats what i master my mixes in anyway. but coverting to 128’s for podomatic, i just do it in iTunes.

I only use it to convert from .wav/.flac/.aiff to 320 .mp3.

But if there is a well established reason NOT to use this type of freeware to convert to .mp3, I’ll reconsider…

Looks like a nice wee app mate. Don’t get too click happy with the install though, looks like it wants you to add a yahoo toolbar etc.

Yeah - I’m always wary of that!

I’ve been using it for at least a year now, no issues whatsoever - does exactly what it says it does, and does it well.

Looks like it’s just a GUI for FFMPEG and doesn’t actually convert anything itself so it’s not as bad as I expected.

CBR is a waste of space though and the program doesn’t offer any VBR options, and of course offers no volume controls for those undergained recordings.

I use MP3Gain for that.

What’s wrong with CBR???

Nothing, it just takes up more space and usually doesn’t sound any better than VBR. Years ago not all players would support VBR so CBR was often recommended, these days not so much.

The real question is why use MP3 instead of AAC.

Ended up using iTunes, it’s very simple once you get your settings right. Just click and convert  Thanks
