I know this forum is Traktor heavy but wanted to start the discussion. I still play on turntables a lot but I’m not gigging enough solo to justify switching to Traktor. That’s not to say I’m dieing to make the switch Scratch Live meets my needs for now.
ITCH is ideal for me becuase I can seamlessly go back and forth to Scratch Live without an issue. This Pioneer is great as a mobile unit because it also feels like a robust DJ unit with controls spread out enough and jog wheels big enough to really get busy CDJ style. So in short, I’m not exactly trading in my technics, but this is the most comfortable controller I’ve played on by far. Here’s my recent demo for ProAudioStar:
It really does look like a great controller, it’s just not geared towards doing as many crazy out there things quickly. For a comfortable controller that’s going to feel like real CDJ’s it’s the best out there. I could easily see someone switching between this thing and CDJ’s and a regular basis. It’s just a different audience.
I like the DDJ-S1 more than the traktor version. Its gets my seal of approval. I used both at NAMM and felt right at home with the itch unit. 2x CDJ-400 and DJM-400 = DDJ-S1
Covering the keyboard is obviously a feature Pioneer wants to show off but I agree at the gig I’d probably leave my laptop out to search for songs in the finder etc.
What kind of crazy out there things should it do? Granted I’m relatively new to the CDJ style layout but being able to pitch tracks plus or minus 100 without having to do some record speed tricks in Serato still blows my mind. Very useful for creative mixes and transitions.
It has a mic input that also feeds to the effects so there are some creative possibilities there for sure.
Ya. While i haven’t seen them in the flesh on videos it looks like the S1 is better built and just inspires more confidence. Id expect for these to sell well.
But can’t see any big name Dj’s using them at gigs.
Hey Ghostdad, in terms of Jog Wheel feel for scratching/ accuracy and just overall feel how would you compare the Vestax VCI-300 Mk2 VS the DDJ-s1…just in terms of Jog wheel feel, i know the Pioneer is superior in effects, sound quailty overall build etc…
but im just talking about the Jogs…whats your opinion?
