Much more dope than the other half…
here’s my question though:
maschine and x1 or midi fighter and xone1d?
niceee
MIDI fighter & x1. ![]()
beast
Cool? Yes…this is cool for people who aren’t part of this message board.
But seriously…come on guys…
So you’re telling me if I buy a Maschine (which I own) and an X1 I can do all that he showed me? You mean…my vci-100 can’t do that?
Cue point triggering with Maschine is a freakin’ waste. I was expecting a little more.
Granted all I’ve ever seen in Richie’s sets is him using the step-sequencer to lay out live ‘claps’…but I still like that more than what Rafik was showing.
I mean, why bother with the X1? Why not map the knobs on the Maschine to take care of the effects?
Nice try…B for effort.
I still <3 NI…

Maybe it’s just because Rafik has just become my favorite controllerist as well as turntablist, but I’m afriad I’m gna have to disagree with you here Chilly mate..
Rafik’s definitely taken cue point juggling to a new level here. I mean, yes - he’s got amazing skills already, but regardless of the hardware, NI have just very cleverly shown how creative you can actually get with their software. Ok, our VCI mapping with its Sanwas, modified FX control, complex use of jog wheels.. the list goes on.. is all very well - but this germanic genius has just rocketed the standard of cue juggling into the stratosphere! or at least he has in my opinion. I really wanna go have a drink with this guy…
I agree, I think this is the best short routine I have seen on any platform.
Dude, I realize I don’t post a lot on this board but I did think it was an excellent display of how controllerism and turntablism can be done in an actual live setup… We always hear about these cool tech gadgets and mappings etc, but how often do we see them put into play on this forum in a video format that shows us “Hey, this is how I use hardware #1, hardware #2 etc…”
…If users can do this on a VCI-100 alone or if you think it’s a waste to do the same routine on that particular setup, by all means, put it on video and show us… Most of us can understand how to mix multiple decks and apply effects to transition etc… but how many of us can say “oh yeah, I can do what DJ so and so does on a regular basis”?
yeah in a way that was the only weird thing in the demo whenever he jumped over and grabbed the X1 with two hands. why not stay on the maschine? also kinda illustrates a problem with knobs (and faders) with “lightweight” (though i do not know how heavy the X1 is) or maybe just “thin” (aka looking leightweight) controllers .. you either have to or feel the need to hold the thing in place when you move that knob/fader.
I don’t think I was clear.
I have Maschine. I think it’s pretty badass…but to use it as a straight up midi controller WHILE YOU HAVE AN X1 (or something else) is really overkill!!
Amen to that Chilly!
Why i think buying the Maschine was the best buy ever!
I know Ean goes on about the arcade buttons for hitting cue points, i’ve tried both and the arcade buttons don’t even come close to the speed of the Maschine pads!
Heres a vid from NI of DMC champ mafik(i think?) using the maschine with their New X1, its nice!
Yeah, surely we all got the NI newsletter? These videos are sick!. Beatmasher and gater combo is nice!!!

that is a sick azz video. there are a ton of techniques that would be great for any dj. fx, cue points, cross fader, - awesome
Demonstrations always seem to be overkill.
I had to find a way to properly present NS7, OmniControl and the MPC1000 at once.
You still tend to use one device over the other or leave one out of it for a while.
He could’ve shown more on the X1 though, because it’s fresh.
Besides that his juggling was awesome <3
well most the routine could’ve been done with any other midi controller that has knobs and pads, so what appealed to me most about the video was the combination of turntablism with controllerism using the traktorpro software.
i think rafik did a good job of showing the strengths of the software combined with hardware, even if using both the kontrol-1 and maschine was a bit on the redundant side.
the domain of digital turntablism seems to be dominated by Serato users, so it’s always nice to see traktor used for styles other than standard EDM.
that’s a pretty cool video but could could someone more N.I. knowledgeable then me please explain is there something going on deeper then using the maschine essentially midi mapped to cuepoints?
i guess i don’t see how the maschine in this use is different then using a much less expensive 4X4 pad controller, like mpd24.
i would like to if there is and i’m just not aware of it
I have to agree here, the three videos (yes, there are 3) were a demonstration of what can be done with… NI equipment. Its a marketing ploy, shocker. Said company wants to profit by demonstrating a pro using the equipment. With that said, I’m always happy to see some turntabilists show their skills in a different light.
Of couse, I’m sold (in the fact that I suck compared to Rafik, which I can handle … and I need traktor when it fully supports the NS7).
In those videos, no. The maschine is just a midi controller used to trigger cue points. It does come with it’s own software which can be used for production type stuff, I believe, but it isn’t being used as such in these vids.
