DJM-900 NXS Mixer Now or Wait for the next generation (Traktor User)
Hey guys,
would like some suggestions on the Pioneer DJM-900NXS Mixer.
thinking about getting it due to the clubs i play at usually have this mixer and and i also would like a hot 4-channel mixer to do mixing and recording. In 2015 it will be it’s 4th year after release, i was wondering if i should wait for the next generation. suggestions welcomed. thanks in advance.
IMO pioneer seem to be more focused on controllers rather than their mixer line up. the DJM900 Nexus and DJM2000 Nexus aren’t going to go away anytime soon IMO. if there is anything in the pipeline id say it would be this time next year before we hear
Even some 10+ year old mixers still kickass in the right hands … Xone92, DJM800 etc. Being older than 4 years does not mean it wont be up to scratch mate. Mixers at their core are pretty basic tech.
Thanks for the feedback, i totally agree (still have some 6+ years gears they still perform). I am just debating on the value since most likely a new Pioneer flagship mixer will be out soon by/in 2015, they ought to progress to make money even though the mixers are more or less a like.
Clubs will likely to start change like they did with DJM-800 to DJM-900/ 2000. Hence, i hesitated to wait for 2015 release.
So…what exactly was different between the 900 and 800? A couple effects and turning the platter halo on CDJ900s and 2000s red when the channel is live…
If you want one, I see 2 good reasons to wait: you don’t want to see it’s used value plumet, or you want to take advantage of the lower used price. I doubt they’ll do anything groundbreaking with the next one.
I think the big thing with the 900 is the NXS aspect of the DJM. If you don’t have NXS CDJs, then it’s a waste.
Otherwise, I’d just use a DJM800 or a DJM850. I absolutely love my DJM800. Only reason why I would upgrade to an 850 or 900 is to move on to the next generation before the value of the 800 plummets too much.
In most cases, the DJM-900 will remain in clubs that i play at for a good 2 yrs. I don’t use CDJ 99% of the time so a USB mixer would be essentially required for ease (now a Z2 at home which is superb).
thanks for all your inputs, I guess it comes down to if i can find a good deal for a used DJM-900 or just wait for the next new gen.
6 color FX instead of 4, X-pad for FX, built-in soundcard (also available in DJM-850 and 750), ethernet link (already mentioned). How much any of these things matter to you should help determine if you should get the 900 or not.
after much consideration, I think the DJM-850 will fulfill my needs at the right bench mark.
let’s see what Pioneer get us next year for mixer I am guessing a upgrade for DJM-2000 first since it will be the 6th year by 2015.
