So I’m about ready to take the plunge, sell my s4, and upgrade to the bigguns - pioneer mixer+decks.
There are a lot of models, can anyone with experience tell me which model is a necessary minimum and what the advantages of the 2000 are versus the older ones?
CDJs, well the 850s/900s are nice enough, though the 2000 is the overkill.
Mate of mine has the 900s, they’re giving you all the necessary functions you might want on the CDJ. (Though you might want to check out the Denon SC2900 as well. )
The 2000 was designed first and the 900NXS is newer. The 2000 comes with a LCD screen and a almost EFX-1000 built in. I have a 900NXS.
Both are Midi Mappable. Both are equally good. I do recommened the 900NXS over the 2000 due to the fact that the 900NXS does everything the 2000 does. If you feel you are missing the EFX-1000 stuff then buy a EFX-1000($300) with the cash saved on the 900NXS but I would just recoemmened to get RMX-1000 ($699). Currently the 900NXS is the flagship at Pioneer and outsells the 2000. Post questions if you need. I have had the 900NXS over a year now and I also considered the 2000.
another quick question here…i currently have djm800 for years now & i do think about an upgrade.but not sure what is the best mixer to replace it.
is the 900nxs worth it, or i should look somewhere else ? (actually i would like a ‘warmer’ sound since i begin to spin vinyl & love every inch of the experience)
@luconia that’s a tuff question. If I had a 800 would I upgrade to the 900NXS? Since I am very smart about my money. I problably woudnt upgrade. The 800 is very comparable to the 900. In that situation you would only be gaining traktor mixer certification and a couple new color effects. If you sold your 800 and your soundcard and the 900 would only cost you 100-200$ then yes I would upgrade. The current price of a 900NXS is low end 1500-1599$ check google that where I bought mine from a store in Mississippi and had it shipped to me in California.
@Quance any pioneer cdj line is good. I would stick with the latest models that can be used with recordbox. I don’t know how well Traktor is with CDJs. I use turntables and a apc40 with my 900NXS. I saw that Traktor has fixed some latency issues with CDJs and HID.
Hmm okay that’s definitely helpful. I’m thinking of doing my set (myself and one other guy) with pioneers and traktor, or an apc40 and a mixer, or a combination of all that somehow… Not sure yet. Maybe switch off one or the other for the set depending on the type of show or venue
If you are using traktor with a 900nxs just get 900 cdjs. The main draw of the 2000s is the screen. With traktor you can get all the functions of the 2000.
thanks. that is why i’m still holding on the ‘urge’ to change my mixer…in the last 4 years i thought i have the ‘best’ thing so forget upgrade for a very long time. and so do the cd players…my ancient cdj800mk2 is still working like a beast & there’s absolutely no necessary upgrade needed. i know the usb & link features of the 900/2000 are cool…it’s the only winning factor (i could care less about Recordbox since i’ve stayed organized long time before i got my cd decks).
