EPIC DILEMMA: Xone DB4 vs Rane MP2015

EPIC DILEMMA: Xone DB4 vs Rane MP2015

So i just bought a Xone DB4 from Rev on this forum. It shipped from the US to UK and hasnt even reached me yet…and then the Rane MP2015 was announced at NAMM…and i died!!!

My goal is a mixer with a sound card so i have 4 tracks from Traktor and a Master track coming from Ableton Live. On the DB4 i would have sacrificed a channel.
On the MP2015 i can have 5 channels coming from my Macbook Pro.

Also, the prospect of one USB from the DB4 to the Macbook Pro and Xone K2 through X-Link was gonna make my rig quite compact, with Ableton Push on the second USB input…

With the Rane, i’ll have to carry a hub…
But i love Rotary mixers, the filter per channel, the Sub Channel, FX Loop and the Master Iso.

Wondering if i should sell my Xone DB4 in the UK and wait till early Feb for the MP2015 to come out…

Any advice ??
Cheers people!

Thanks
Faisal

The DB4 also has a mic input that can effectively act as a channel. Also since you are on a Mac you can use software to route audio effectively. Doesn’t your K2 have an audio out as well?

Those mixers are apples and oranges, mate.

Opposite ends of ther spectrum.

whenever i cant decide i just buy both, i learned this from my wife :stuck_out_tongue:

To tell you guys the truth the Rane MP 2015 is ugly as sin.

this killed me

A) Dont have a wife
B) Not that rich!
C) MP2015 is GORGEOUS in my opinion! … i’m almost 40!!

If you have the money, Rane MP2015 hands down.

The MP2015 is the shiny nuts

whoever says that rane is ugly needs to get their vision checked

Patience grasshopper…

Take your time to check out the DB4 and wait untill the 2015 is available.
Not expecting a lemon but with kind of MSRP I would want to make very shure (reviews, hands on experience, …) before I would make that choice.

That said, I passed on the BD4 (love my xone 92r more) and will sell my 92 to start funding the 2015 (if it’s as good as Rane claims).

MP2015 - it will be as good as Rane claims.

It is quite the intriguing product of this year thus far.

Rane only speaks when they have something to offer, unlike all other brands which will produce every bunk idea that comes to mind.

If Rane releases a product, i can assure it will be a class above the rest.

But the DB4 is great…it is just for a different purpose, more EFX based.

Hey Johnny, thanks for the advice.
The thing is i just bought the DB4 from the US, got it shipped to the UK and was waiting for my friends to carry it for me. I live in Pakistan. So if i get the DB4, use it and then plan to sell it again, i will have to send it back abroad…no one in my country is as crazy as i am! So instead of paying all the shipping and taxes, i’d rather pass on those savings to a buyer.
Its already up for sale. Been in touch with Rane almost everyday and they answered all my questions.
The sound card may be good enough for studio productions as well.

…that said, the portability of the DB4/Xone K2 combo was what i was looking forward to. If Rane had built a USB hub into this mixer it would be absolute perfection!

So, can any tech heads compare the sound quality based on those figures…

I don’t think you’re really going to get any opinions that are worth anything considering the Rane hasn’t been released yet. Wait for the reviews to see if it really lives up to the hype.

That’s like comparing cars based on their max speed.

True…i have become THAT forum poster who i used to hate…comparing apples to unreleased oranges. Oh…i hope u all can understand its called POST NAMMatic Stress Disorder!
