favorite online music retailer other then itunes and beatport

right now for me - boomkat.
i like the layout, most albums have reviews that are objective enough that you can get an idea of whether you even wanna bother queuing it for preview, and their selection is pretty good.
only cons - preview player emits a really loud intermittent beep, and if you bought a bunch of stuff at once theres no way to instantly download it all or separate the new downloads from the old.

share!

Psyshop, Saikosounds (for CD’s)

Stompy and damn noisy. More to do with quality of house music they stock

Juno Download. Plenty of bestsellers and DJ charts.

Labels.

Indie labels (and some medium sized ones) sell tracks from their website. The advantage is that a lot of them are doing the “minimum donation” thing, which I like. And they often provide flac files, which I adore them for.

I don’t really use anything else atm, because I haven’t found another site that’s as easy to browse as beatport. I’ll look into some of the ones listed here, though.

Oh, and I don’t use iTunes. Well, i do…but not for music I’d DJ with. And I haven’t actually done that in a while…it’s either labels or Amazon for the most part.

thanks!

Turntablelab and bluecollardistro and two of my favorites but the selection is slim.

Juno Download

  • newsletter with interviews/reviews
  • genre pages
  • DJ charts
  • good player
  • brilliant selection
  • good search engine
  • WAV option
PS -tend to use Beatport more 'tho - cheaper due to a better exchange rate.

By far I like www.trackitdown.net

They have a facebook link for each track that shows how many people liked it. Which is a fast way to see what is popular.

Def this http://www.legalsounds.com/ for me, trackitdown and videotoolz too…

I second that. Both sites are quality for house.

juno, emusic, and amazon. Kind of pissed off at emusic though since they shifted pricing formats.

At least they rollover your money now. I use emusic for what was 50 songs a month, but now is $23 a month. Seemed to work out to about the same last month which was the first month and I’ve find a few thing that they didn’t have that I bought so I’m not as upset as I was.

ORLY? Wow I just assumed I have to spend it all every month. If they roll it over I don’t have a problem with it – then it’s just like amazon, pay as you go. Guess I’ll leave a few bucks in there this month and see what happens…

I love trackitdown but twice now their back catalogue has been inexplicably nuked.

Juno Download I frequently use as well but I find their player & search sluggish. One good thing about them though is if they insert place holders for things they will get up to a month later. Some beatport exclusives are only exclusive for X weeks. If Juno’s going to get them, they’re generally add it to the database, so you can just wait it out and save a buck or so.

Same. I quit b/c of it. And they only offer up to 192kb as well, right?

I’m pretty sure everything I’ve gotten off emusic was 320 or vbr.

I think everything on emusic is VBR so you can’t really compare numbers to numbers, it’s just not the same.

K… thought I read that somewhere. But, even though it’s VBR… the quality is substantially lower than 320K, wouldn’t you say? Note that I’ve not been a member for some 2 years now.

Guys, what’s good for older house music? Not having much joy with Beatport.
