First Issue

I just recently purchased equipment to back into mixing. I can not get my CDJ to connect to my computer at all.

I have a brand new ethernet cable connected to my computer and my cdj. The equipment I have is used and I have never used a cdj or serato.

I opened serato in my computer and connected my CDJ to my computer and tried to link them but nothing happened. I then opened the CDJ Version diplay utility but it says nothing is connected.

Someone please tell me I am a moron and have left a step out that I need to do for them to connect.

Realized I need a USB. Tried that too and still won’t link to serato. It’s linked to my PC but won’t let me control serato.

IIRC the ethernet has NOTHING to do with Serato. Just Rekordbox.

Ummm… Ok, so can you help me figure out why my cdj will connect to my pc but not serato??

Maybe state what CDJ, what firmware you have on it (please don’t say latest), are you using SSL or Serato DJ, what version,…

Cdj 900 Firmware 4.32 (Which is the latest, I updated them last night)
Serato Dj verison 1.7.1 (Just downloaded last night)

Forgive my ignorance as I am new to all of this digital stuff.

I would think all I would have to do being everything is current, I’d just plug in my USB, hit the link button and everything connect no problem. Pretty frustrating for me.

You need Serato v2.1 or later.

There is no Serato DJ 2.1, you’re talking about Scratch Live.

Yeah, I do not have Scratch Live. Only Serato Dj.

You do realise you need a SL soundcard or a supported mixer? You haven’t stated what other hardware you use…

Okay, First off I stated I am new to the digital world so forgive me for being a ‘noob’ and not as educated as some of you. The last time I was behind a pair of decks it was with 2 1200 mk2 and a djm 600. 2nd off, why not just state these things instead of telling me to watch a video? Sorry, just doesn’t seem like much help.

I am waiting to receive my DJM 850. So are you telling me that this is all because I do not have my mixer connected?? I was just looking to see if they would connect to Serato but I can understand why they wouldn’t if it is because I do not have my mixer plugged in as well.

Sorry for being a “noob”. I am just looking for answers. I hope you all remember when you started and needed help and won’t frown upon me for not understanding everything right now. Thanks

Iirc, the DJM850 isn’t a serato device, so it won’t help. You need a serato box for the software to work the way you think it will.

The only thing I frown upon is your inablility to read a simple manual. All of these things are in maunals all over the internet. I have a small collection of manuals myself so that if I need to look something up (which is inevitable) I have two generations of CDJ manuals, mixer manuals and software manuals. The info is valuable and freely available. Use it!

The video wasn’t mockery either, it contained more info than just the “you need a Serato box” part. It could also have been that you forgot to put the CDJ in HID mode for instance.
