I just got Traktor Pro and find its pretty easy to establish beat grids on top of electronic beats. My problem is I haven’t figured out how to grid live drummers. I mostly play old school funk so there’s a lot of complex drum patterns and slight tempo variations (often unintentional) within a single song. Will Traktor work in this context? If so, does anybody have advice on how to lay a grid on live drums?
Idealy you need to run all of your live tracks though Ableton so they are all spot bang on time before importing them into Traktor. Use Ableton in complex warp mode to accomplish this
I thought this thread was going to be about setting a beat grid while playing a live track. Oh well.
…I always seem to find that I’ve forgotten to save a beat grid on a track I’ve prepared already. I’ve learned not to ever try and set on during a show.
Thanks for the response. My internet was down for a week so I haven’t been able to reply.
So it seems like for complex drum patterns it is best to warp my music using Abelton. I don’t like djing in Abelton though and really prefer the layout of Traktor Pro. Djing on turntables and cdjs is just too ingrained in my brain.
So I’m wondering, if I warp tracks in Abelton than import my music into Traktor, will Traktor read the beat grids I laid down in Abelton or will I end up with the same problem of not being able to lay down beat grids over complex drum patterns in Traktor?
