headphones question: best "lightweight" "over-the-ears" cans for "listening"?

headphones question: best “lightweight” “over-the-ears” cans for “listening”?

Hey everyone! Very specific question here. I am looking for a set of quality headphones for “LISTENING/STUDYING” purposes. This is not for DJ’ing (as I’m on my 4th year with the HD25’s and they’re still going strong).

I use normal Sony ear buds for light listening, but I’ve noticed that buds in my ears bother me after some time.

Please share your thoughts on the best set of cans you think satisfies the following criteria:

  1. LIGHTWEIGHT (HD25’s are great for listening too, but even after 4 yrs, I feel like they still cramp me a little bit…)

  2. OVER THE EAR (I believe it’s called “circumaural”? I study with people around me…so cans like the Grado SR60 with “supra-aural” will not work bc they will hear my electronic music!)

  3. Again this is for listening purposes, not necessarily DJ cans.

  4. around $200 or less…

With my research, right now I’m considering Ultrasone HFI 15g, AKG K518/450…

Any others? Any other Ultrsasones, AKG’s, Sennheisers? Thanks!!

the old workhorse, sony mdr-v6

i love my pioneer HDJ 500

sorry if im off topic, i heardly read the OP

after more research it looks like i’m looking for headphones smaller than “circumaural”. Supra-aural closed would be fine…

This is pretty sweet for headphones research…

the hd500s dont leak sound too much (my friend had mine on and turned them up loud when there was a few people talking near by. i didnt hear them, then i put htem on and it was fkn loud), unless its a really quiet area, where you wouldnt be turning the music up anyways

I would go for the pioneer hdj500 i love mine and they are very comfortable and have great sound

beats! :stuck_out_tongue:

TMA-1s!!! Depending on your head size they might squeeze a bit but I find them pretty comfy for plain old listening (and great sound!)

I got a pair of Westone 2’s for about $200 recently. Awesome earbuds… they’re spongy, so conform to your ear.
