Help with a resume and cover letter?

Hey just wondering if anyone has a resume format and cover letter? Yes i searched google couldnt really find one that explained alot.

Honestly, it’s one of the most important things you’ll ever need to learn.

That being said, go to the local bookstore or your town library, and grab anything that may seem helpful and read it.

Really.

Just digging around online isn’t going to help this one as much as a good old fashioned book can. And there are a LOT on the subject.

Cover letters and CV’s should be changed for every different job you go for. Its easy to tell if you’ve just printed off the same letter/cv and sent it out to a bunch of companies.

CV wise i was always told to try and keep it to no more than 2 pages long and to always refer to yourself in the third person… god knows why. Generally a CV follows this format:

Name
Address
Contact Details

Personal Statement - i.e. a short paragraph about yourself and your unique skills and abilities. This is the bit you change per job your applying to so it seems like your CV is a perfect match.

Career Profile to date:

  • List previous employers and the job title you had, followed by the main responsibilities/duties you had while in that positions. something like:

Really Cool Amazing Company,
Job Title, (Dec 2006 - Present Day)

  • I was responsible for this
  • i was in charge of doing that

Really crap company,
Job Title, (June 2003 - Dec 2006)

  • I did shit
  • I did more shit

etc etc, If you have too many just list the most recent followed by the most relevant job titles. Its good to try and show you have always been in work/education or doing something, try to avoid advertising that youve had big gaps out of work (if you have that is…)

I then list qualifications in a table format:

Establishment (i.e high school/university) | Dates From - To
Address Details of establishment

after listing all establishments i then details all qualifications in a table

Examination level (i.e. Masters Degree/High School Qualifications)
Subject | Date Attained

Qualifications should be listed in chronological order.

At the end of my CV i have a few personal details i.e marital status, has full UK driving license etc

and finally 2 references and their contact details, including my relationship to them. i.e.

Referee 1 - previous Employer
Mr So and So
Address
Contact

That should get you started

Mac or PC Chris? Templates in Office '07 and 10.

PC win 7

Good man! 00DJC’s content is spot on - templates in Office. Rule of thumb - KEEP IT SHORT AND PRECISE.

Don’t let the CV take more than two pages, but list all of your work history if you can. I’ve had agencies pick up on gap etc.

As you begin to paint a picture of how your days tick off in seconds of awesomeness…

You should probably avoid

And especially this level of catharsis,
Unless you actually own an island
And a fleet of ships with a Worldwide Network, of course…

So, as Jonathan enlightens with motivating and positive guidance…

…Last, but not least…School, Education, Opportunity.

Find your happy place and elevate yourself beyond the worker drone.
You are certainly capable and most definitely talented enough to make the best of this so called life.

We believe in you…You just have to believe in yourself.

thanks b3nz

B3nz i <3 you!!!

You missed your calling b3n.

The best advice I can give you on a resume is this :

NEVER put anything on your resume that you can’t say MORE THAN TWO SENTENCES ABOUT in the interview. Nothing makes me more suspicious of a candidate than finding out that they have a bunch of stuff on their resume that they don’t know anything about.

!!! AWESOMER !!!
