Im just getting started and im mulling over a few names to put on billets. I come from the camp that a DJ name is something you come up with on your own, but a few friends of mine say you either earn it or it is given to you.
How did you come up with your “Stage Name”? Was it given to you? Funny story behind it?
As for me, im on the fence as to what i want to use. DJ Larry, my name isnt larry. It just sounds funny/cool but some guy from berlin is using it.
DJ Blowski, i was in a skit for a webshow while on vacation and i inquired “HOW MUCH FOR A BLOWSKI” and my drunk friends at a house party yelled it out at me.
The Last Rocketeer, I love that movie and this just sounds cool. Good costume possibilities
Though I play mostly edm these days and I’m fairly young, I have been and still am a lover of oldschool hiphop and my fav rap group of all time is A Tribe Called Quest. Hence the dj name Kid Quest and most of my web addresses/ email being “A Kid Called Quest”
When i got started i was DJ Mensa, because i played intelligent drum and bass. Then i got a cease and desist letter from Mensa, so that was done.
Then i played as Dr. Drew, for a while because my name’s Drew and well yeah. But some other jackass had that already.
So i started playing under the name Coup D’etat, I thought it was time for a revolution.
But the revolution never came, and i’m certain that will be the cause for the end of the world, hence my current name “La Fin Du Monde!”
wasn’t hyped on the moniker i was using so decided i needed a change and took a different approach to coming up with one instead of creating some silly alter ego identity like i had previously done.
being the self-deprecating ironic type, i looked back into my mental rolodex of humiliating experiences and there it was, like a shining beacon amongst a seagull ridden garbage dump of psychological torment.
I thought about using few different names that were related to my interests and clothing preferences, but then I realized how insanely good the letters J T and L looked next to each other when set in ultra light Helvetica Neue. So DJTL it is (TL being my initials) I guess we’ll see if it lasts.
I use to play Counter-Strike a lot and was involved in competitive leagues. Everyone used mIRC chat to stay connected with your team/other teams and whatnot.
Anyway, K-Line is a command to ban someone from a server in mIRC, saw someone get K-Line’d and thought it was a cool name and have been using it ever since.
