I don’t want to be called a “DJ”

My sister was talking to me about what my alias was going to be once things here get rolling, and I told her that I don’t want to be “DJ” ANYTHING, I just want to be me, Christian. When it comes to the banners/posters I literally just want to have my first name up there.

This might come across as the MOST dumb ass question to date, but is that “allowed”? Can I just use my first name as my “DJ” name? I don’t even want DJ in front of it, just, Christian.

This board has taken a strange turn over the last few days.

Sadly not, it’s not allowed by the supreme authority, but you can still try Christian DJ.

how does that sound?

:open_mouth:

Hahaha, I dunno, I ask because I’ve yet to hit that stage. Just don’t really know how things work at that point.

What about Christ Ian?

To answer your question: Yes you can … I actually dropped my old moniker and went with my full name.

nothing wrong with leaving the term dj out of your name. there is nothing to worry about. i go by the name ed paris without dj anywhere near my alias

Carl Cox, Porter Robinson, sorry for only two examples, i am extremely tired. You get my point

mine is VON ROYALE, and i never use “DJ” too much.

why not Ian Christ, or Ian Crist

Maybe your DJ name can sound like a wife who is agitated by her husband. “Christ Ian!”

Just call yourself Robot Tits.

Thank you. I thought it was just me. Are all these crazy new questions for real?

The guy asked a question so let’s help the guy out

I hear you.

Christian seems like a very enthusiastic guy, and his heart is in the right place. But, he’s also the guy who started a thread recently worried about what he might do after he retired from DJing, as he didn’t want to be that old man in the club still playing tunes. Now he’s started a thread about choosing his DJ name.

Here’s the thing: Christian hasn’t yet mixed a tune, because he still hasn’t purchased a single piece of equipment. There is certainly NOTHING wrong with all his questions, research, and consideration; I love that all music lovers are welcome in this forum, and he’s really showing immense interest.

But, for some reason, none of the veterans here have given their usual good advice: start small, focus only on the basics, and practice/practice/practice. Don’t worry about what to do after retirement, or what your name might be some day, or if you want to play hip hop without scratching. Just find a way to start playing music, and see where it takes you. You don’t need to have all the answers yet. You don’t even know how much you’ll enjoy it, or how good you will be at it. Just focus on the things you are passionate about and don’t over think all the logistical stuff just yet. Your goal right now is to have fun; make it a job later.

Christian, please don’t take my comment as a criticism. You definitely have great energy, love, and respect for the scene, and you should keep asking any question you like. But, in my humble opinion, you shouldn’t get too worked up about these little details. There really are no rules set in stone for you, and you can blaze your own path. I think the best part of this journey is the thrill of discovering the art and science of this whole thing as a BEGINNER, and just doing what YOU want to do since you aren’t answering to anyone else. Just try not to skip over that part!

Sadly, I believe the answer is yes.

me and a few dj buddies came to an agreement that if you started DJ’ing in the 90’s the Title DJ is grandfathered in and is allowed and accepted lol

I actually can’t think of many “famous” DJs who have “DJ” in their name at all. As soon as I hit “post”, however, a bunch will probably come to me.

Ah yessss, D!RK.

Big ups, thank you for this reply, really, thank you.
