How do I get a WIRED connection between TouchOSC and Traktor?
If I researched correctly, you CAN have a wired connection between TouchOSC and Traktor as long as you are using the Camera Connection Kit (for iPad) or the Line 6 Midi Mobilizer. I’m not trying to connect any external MIDI controllers, I’m only using iPad and a mixer (Kontrol Z2).
From the TouchOSC website: “Of course any wired MIDI connection will also work using any CoreMIDI compatible MIDI interface for iOS devices or the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer.”
I have the Camera Connection Kit for my iPad but I’m confused as to how it would connect to my laptop (what cable would go from the CCK to laptop?)…
If I bought the Line 6 Midi Mobilizer, would i have to use a separate soundcard with midi in/out ports (the Line6 comes with two 5-pin midi cables) ?
TouchOSC runs just fine over wifi (I use the TouchOSC Bridge connection) but I’m just trying to reduce the latency…
Any help about the Camera Connection Kit or the Line 6 Midi Mobilizer would be greatly appreciated!
The iPad isn’t seen as a MIDI device, even though it can send out MIDI. That’s why trying to connect it to either a Mac or PC with just the USB cable will not work. You need something that will act as a MIDI interface.
Using the CCK, you can get a simple USB MIDI interface like this…
…and that will act as a MIDI interface. The only problem you’ll run into is that you need a 5pin interface to SEE that data. That may or may not be an issue depending on your existing equipment. The other issue is that of course you aren’t able to charge your iPad while using this solution.
This gives you MIDI in and out, and a charging solution as well. But it’s not without it’s issues as well. If you’re doing anything that is SYSEX heavy, you’ll have trouble with the IODock. It’s also a dead product if you update your iPad, because it’s 30pin based.
The best solution is also the most expensive, but it covers all the bases. That’s the iConnectMIDI…
The iConnnectMIDI is a MIDI aggregator and interface, and the connection method is cable based. This means that this system can grow and change easily.
Yes. I think the ones I bought were slightly cheaper
I was gonna snip the midi plugs off and crimp the wires together to save a couple of £££ and stop the connectors working their way loose but the adapters have proven to be solid so far.
Nem0nic is right tho, it does tie up the iPad charging port so you can’t charge the iPad with a CCK connected.
the cheapest and easiest way is to jailbreak your ipad and use usb teethering.
that way a network connection will establish via usb. this should have the lowest latency possible.
Won’t that also require something running on the host computer (like rtpMIDI or MIDIBridge) to convert the data and turn it around toa virtual MIDI port?
